Not true Damascus you can't see the pattern off the bat like that you have to see it under a reflection of light it looks acid etched
This is an update to my previous post. I just wanted to elaborate on my end product. After i posted my initial review i contacted trueswords and they offered to send a replacement with paid shipping. I figure it was just a bad apple and should not be taken to reflect what i think you are much more likely to receive. The replacement did not have any of the scaring, the edge was reasonably sharp although it could use some touching up. The fittings are snug and secure. Tip has a reinforced tear drop flare to it before finishing at the point. It is different then most of my katana but I actually like this feature and need to experiment more. Like in my earlier post it does feel more blade heavy and i think the tip adds a bit more weight. Different than a great balanced sword and at the same time gives it the force to get through targets like a sword w/o a bohi. I really like the tan ito and the tsuba. It might be hard to see from photos, they are monkies. At first it was a bit odd but i've grown to appreciate the uniqueness. Anyways i just wanted to mainly say i would recommend this item. if you get a lemon like i did (prob rare) trueswords stands behinds their products and will ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.

Nice looking sword
Blade is no good and was not sharpened as others have said
I hope you know how to sharpen it
It will take a lot of sharpening.
At first sight the sword looks and feels great then...I tried to cut a water bottle. The sword didn't even come close to breaking the integrity of the plastic bottle, it merely dented it and tore the paper label. This sword is no more than a decoration please set your expectations accordingly.
This sword is the first sword I bought and it feels amazing and looks great and it has cut through anything i put in front including tree branches and two liter bottles full of water. It is good sword in my opinion. The guard has broken through the bottom of the box however so that kinda stinks but just proves that the sword is unstoppable
I like the color scheme and menuki a lot. The Tsuba also has a very interesting design, I might be mistaken looked like monkies or something but it was pretty nice and unique. The blade is really beautiful with the Damascus pattern I don't know if its real or not but it looks great. One thing i'm very disappointed in is my kissaki, the edge of the kissaki is not sharp, in fact it has a grinding defect or something that looks machined or ground raw. its actually a flat rough surface like it was chiseled away or something. Debating whether I want to try to reprofile/sharpen the edge or send it back. Balance is not as good as I was hoping for, most of my swords, actually all of them don't have a bo-hi and I was hoping this would be a good tool for light cutting. I'm not gonna say its displeasing just not what I expected in terms of balance.
Absolutely stunning. From the wave patterns on the blade to its balance and weight definitely one of the best buys I've made from this site. As always TrueSwords fails to disappoint.
This Shinwa katana is my favorite sword in my entire collection. I have numerous Musashi, Ten Ryu and Masahiro katana swords, but this one blows them all away. you can just feel the hand-made quality of this one compared to the others. It's razor sharp and has no problem cutting through limbs, rolled mats and even two liter bottles filled with water. This is definitely a quality sword and I recommend it to anyone looking for a functional katana with a traditional handforged blade.
