The master swordsmiths at Shinwa have created their very first sword custom designed for the female warrior. This Pink Fenom Japanese Katana features a 28 1/2" rich black Damascus steel blade that has been folded ten times to create 2,056 layers of high-contrast Damascus steel. But, this isn't just a pretty wall hanger sword, the razor-sharp blade is full-tang, and fully functional, capable of slicing rolled mats with the same ease as your $600 swords! The handle is wrapped with genuine black ray skin and soft pink cotton cordage in the traditional Japanese sword wrapping method. An antiqued metal tsuba and menuki offer intricately detailed artwork of oriental dragons. This sword includes a piano black wooden scabbard with a high gloss lacquer finish and matching pink cord accents.
Shinwa swords are made by hand using traditional methods in the ancient sword-making township of Lonquan. The sword-making history of this town can be traced back to the twentieth year of the Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty – exceptional sword making continues there still today. The swordsmiths of Lonquan can apprentice for up to six years before they begin to forge these functional works of art on their own.
Each Shinwa sword is hand forged at temperatures of up to 1,100 °F and continuously heated, folded, hammered and shaped before being oil quenched and then straightened. Damascus steel blades are folded as many as ten times to yield up to 2,056 layers of premium Damascus steel. After quenching the blade is then ground and hand sharpened and polished by the swordsmith on a series of wet stones. Each set of these wet stones contains a finer level of silicate particles, which produces an even sharper edge. In the final stages of this painstaking process, the tsuka is wrapped and tsuba and other fittings are added before a thin coat of oil is added to the blade to prevent corrosion.

I got this sword recently and I have to say, it surpassed my expectations. The pink cotton wrap is tight and even, very well done, and the blade itself it extremely beautiful. The edge is fairly sharp, sharp enough for melons and other things like that, which is all I'll being using it for. The only issues I have is that there appears to be a large amount of gunk inside the scabbard. Every time I draw the sword, there's a whole bunch of grime on it that I have to wipe off, which is drying up the oil. Hopefully the gunk will eventually clear out, but as the sword itself is fantastic I'll keep it at 5 stars.
Cotton on handle was wrapped slightly less than tight, but al in all, a beautiful sword...
Got it for my wife, because she loves pink.
It states that it is real Ray skin.
I have many katana with Ray skin, and they are all like sandpaper to the touch. And I have a lot with faux ray, and they are smooth to the touch.
This Pink Katana is smooth.
I do not think the skin is real on this Katana.
If I am wrong about this, let me know.
I have been buying swords now for over 40 years and I am not a novice. But who knows, maybe they have a way to make it smooth now.
