The original sword of the blind swordsman, the odachi was a fearsome sword popularized in feudal Japan and carried by the Samurai class.
This stunning recreation exemplifies the fabled history of the odachi in exquisite detail, featuring thousands of layers of heat-forged Damascus steel. Each powerful blade is hand sharpened and honed to a razor's edge on each side. A decorative brass habaki adds further elegance to this regal odachi. The handle and coordinating scabbard are hand lacquered with a smooth, glossy finish. An intricate dragon design completes the scabbard. Measures 40 " overall. Double-edged Damascus steel blade Heat forged & hand sharpened Decorative brass habaki Lacquered handle & scabbard 40" overall length
Shinwa swords are made by hand using traditional methods in the ancient sword-making township of Lonquan. The sword-making history of this town can be traced back to the twentieth year of the Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty – exceptional sword making continues there still today. The swordsmiths of Lonquan can apprentice for up to six years before they begin to forge these functional works of art on their own.
Each Shinwa sword is hand forged at temperatures of up to 1,100 °F and continuously heated, folded, hammered and shaped before being oil quenched and then straightened. Damascus steel blades are folded as many as ten times to yield up to 2,056 layers of premium Damascus steel. After quenching the blade is then ground and hand sharpened and polished by the swordsmith on a series of wet stones. Each set of these wet stones contains a finer level of silicate particles, which produces an even sharper edge. In the final stages of this painstaking process, the tsuka is wrapped and tsuba and other fittings are added before a thin coat of oil is added to the blade to prevent corrosion.

I got the sword very quickly due to trueswords quick shipping so that was great. only problem I had was that when I got the sword, the tip was bent and there were nicks or cuts in the blade. So in other words it came damaged. The sword is alright for cutting and is great for stabbing. It is EXTREMELY light. I underestimated exactly how light it was when I bought it. Overall its a decent sword, but for the price you can probably get something that will last longer. This is a great sword for display for the occasional backyard cutter, but in the long run it wont last. I'm honestly going to return mine due to the damage and find something else. Its a good sword, just not for $70.
It's a very beautiful sword, good piece to add to your collection. I have a rope tied to my tree and I tried to cut it with the sword butt it just bounced off and the sword felt like it wasn't meant for cutting, what stabbing will get the job done. I want to get a rubber stopper from a cane or a crutch or something and put it at the bottom of this and take it with me whenever I go walking in the woods or something self defense at its finest
True swords has been very good to me. I have been a returning customer for around 10 years now and have never been dissapointed. With true swords you get exactly what you see. Now on to the sword itself. It is a wonderful blade and is sharp on 1 and 3/4 sides of the blade. It is sturdy and IS made of folded steel. It came in sharp but needs to be sharpened to get thay razor edge. It IS a full size Japanese sword means about an 11 inch handle. My sword came in a little bent from the timpering process but thats hardly noticable.
Ps. The TS app is really convenient
Wonderful, well balanced, sings in the air. It is not a full double edged sword which I find appealing. This double edge holds true to the ideal of accuracy while not hindering you or your sword. This is a sword for speed.
The only thing I could feel mentioning that if you buy this sword, know that it is light make. The handle I am watching for integrity a blade like this in a stronger fasting is exactly what I am looking for. over all a 5 out of 5, 9/10
This is probably the best sword I've ordered off of crosswords. Even though it wasn't completely double edged, I loved the look of
look of th damascus steel.
Calling this a double edged sword is a bit of a stretch as it only has about 5 inches of sharpened blade on the back. I don't know if this is the style or not but I was not happy as I expected both sides to be sharpened from tip to habaki. Given that the second side is really too thick up the blade to try and easily sharpen it, I think that is the best it will get. Knowing that, I probably wouldn't have bought it but now that I did, at a discount, I'll probably keep it. But I probably won't buy another 'double edged' Nodachi style unless I can confirm it is sharp the length of both sides. Ignoring the second side, the first is sharp and the sword is balanced well enough. It can be used as a katana might be used but not like a fully double edged blade.
