I was a first time buyer at truewords and was greatly disappointed. The sword arrived damaged and wasn't oiled so this makes me believe i was sent a used open box product.
Unfortunately I didnt get a chance to send it back before the 60 period as it was a gift for somebody so i lost $60.
Make sure you check it and if ur not pleased return within 60 days
This is the best Last Samurai replica you will find! High quality 1045 steel. The hamon is brushed on, the wrap is like cotton, wooden saya and parts of handle, but the rest is good quality katana, especially for this price! The engraving is very cool, and everything is tightly put together still after I sliced up some cardboard (including the box)! Nice display piece for my collection from one of my favorite movies!
So I have had this sword for a while now and think I can give a full review, I shall be brief. The blade itself is very nice, with the right technique, one can cut paper, my only gripe is that the hamon is fake and mine is wearing away. The engraving should be cleaned once the sword is received as the anti corrosive oil is caked in there. The rest of the katana is pretty disappointing. The habaki does not fit flush with the area where the tang ends and sword begins, this causes a strange bulging of metal at the base of the dull half. The tsuba on mine is cockeyed but stiffly in place, the rest cannot be said for the brass pieces on either side of the hand guard as well as the black metal piece that lies just before those brass pieces. All of those are loose. The fuchi, or handle, was wrapped tightly at first but now is falling apart revealing the wooden panels beside the Ray skin. Also the pommel is coming off. I can attest to the effectiveness of the steel, but the handle is poor quality, three out of five for this katana.
Another sword add to my collection. And just like it descrided and it is very sharp and got great weight to it. A pure and true craftmenship to this sword and love the translation. I'll be coming back!!!
Bought this sword at Christmas time. It's quite a beautiful sword. nice balance, tightly assembled, Thank you True swords!. It's too bad you don't carry the wakizashi to go with it.
Recieved my Katana yesterday. And it is a very beautiful sword, sharp right out of the box, well balanced and awesome. It is a great first purchase. It's too bad that you do not carry a Wakizashi to go with it. I did find a short sword though, I won't say where I found it, but it is a Mushashi blade.
Other than chopping up the cardboard box that it came in, I haven't really used this sword for cutting anything but it feels great in my hands. The blade is sturdy and powerful (Full tang, after all). The handle is sturdy as well and beautiful. The engraving is masterfully done, smoothed perfectly and with no jagged or rough edges. The scabbard is wood so it's nothing really special, but still excellent for the purpose it serves.
All and all, I extremely recommend it. I love it, and it still remains one of my favorite purchases from Trueswords. Love it!
I have had this Sword for 2 years now and I must say it was definatly worth it! I have Used it many times and only minor chipping in the blade. But from cutting everything my blade is a little stained. Over all for 60 Bucks its the best sword I ever had for a cheap price. And its awesome from the movie.
I have been into sword collecting since I was 17. I have owned alot of Katanas. I am quite adept at handling them. Most swords I have purchased, no matter the price have never been "out of the box sharp". Well folks, this one was.It came with a razor sharp edge, my first test cut was of course the big ugly cardboard box it was shipped in. It cut through like butter, perfect cut. That being said, the fittings are extremely tight, nothing rattles. The blade took no damage at all after hacking the box up into pieces, and no level of sharpness was lost. As always trueswords had extremely fast delivery, ordered this katana yesterday, and it arrived this afternoon while I was at work. It arrived very clean, no wood chips on the blade from the saya (scabbard), it wasn't drenched in oil like some companies do, the sword bag it comes in is very nice and high quality, with a silk feel to it.The Hamon is wirebrushed but that's fine. I will say it is extremely light, it's the lightest Katana I've ever held. Obviously at the end of the day however it is a 59 dollar katana and it's not meant for heavy duty cutting such as anything wooden, or metal (which...you shouldn't try and cut with ANY Katana). But for light cutting, plastic bottles, pool noodles, light tatami etc it's perfect.
