This samurai sword's branding is currently in transition from MUSASHI to MUSHA.

During this period the factory is shipping us mixed stock, which means we may have stock marked Musashi, Musha, or both, at any given time.

The sword itself has not changed. It remains the same sword which has been produced for years, made by the same master swordsmiths and using the same materials. The only change is with the brand marked on retail box, seppa, habaki or hang tag (if any).

Please contact us with any questions about this sword or the branding process.

    About Musashi:
Miyamoto Musashi was a famous Japanese swordsman and is believed to have been one of the most skilled swordsmen in history. Musashi, as he is often simply known, became legendary through his outstanding swordsmanship in numerous duels, even from a very young age. He is the founder of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu, or Niten Ryu style of swordsmanship and wrote Go Rin No Sho, The Book of Five Rings, a book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.

Musashi writes about his first duel:
"I have trained in the way of strategy since my youth, and at the age of thirteen I fought a duel for the first time. My opponent was called Arima Kihei, a sword adept of the Shinto ryu, and I defeated him. At the age of sixteen I defeated a powerful adept by the name of Akiyama, who came from the prefecture of Tajima. At the age of twenty-one I went up to Kyoto and fought duels with several adepts of the sword from famous schools, but I never lost." -Musashi Miyamoto, Go Rin No Sho

It is notable that Musashi died of what is believed to be thoracic cancer, and was not killed in combat. He died peacefully after finishing the Dokkodo ("The Way of Walking Alone", or "The Way of Self-Reliance"), 21 precepts on self-discipline to guide future generations.

After his death various legends began to appear. Most talk about his feats in kenjutsu and other martial arts, some describing how he was able to hurl men over 5 feet backwards, other about his speed and technique. Other legends tell of how Musashi killed giant lizards in Echizen, as well as Nues in various other prefectures. He gained the stature of Kensei, a "sword saint" for his mastery in swordsmanship. Some believed he could run at super-human speed, walk on air, water and even fly through the clouds.

I hate to be the first to write a somewhat negative review, however, I was a bit disappointed.

When I removed the sword from the saya, there was wood particles coating the blade. Even after wiping, the blade appears spotty from the wood dust mixing with the oil and sitting on the blade. I looked down inside the saya with a light, and saw that the insides were very rough- obviously the reason for so much wood dust.

There was a drop of oil on the habiki, which seems to have stained it- now there is a big orange spot there.

I also didn't find the blade to be very sharp, but thankfully I ordered an Accusharp to fix that problem.

The hamon is obviously etched on- but not unexpected considering the price.

Maybe I was just unlucky with quality control, but overall, it seems to be a good katana for the price; I definitely would buy it again.

My sword just arrived, I am extremely pleased with the time it took for delivery. The sword itself is beautifully crafted, extremely well balanced and sturdy. The red finish is elegant in appearance and I have no problems to report. The poster it came with is really neat as well. I definately plan on ordering more! Thanks Trueswords!

Wow and Amazing is just some of the things I must said to start my review on this exceptional sword. One when then mean " Razor Sharp" they sure do mean every word. Two, the red saya is actually like a sweet crimson red with an high gloss finished to it. Three, Musashi knows hows to impressed with a sweet looking storage box and nice black sword carry bag also included was a True Swords poster and a Musashi tag.

Come to think about that just the display and extras; the sword in generally is well-made and oiled nicely with no nicks or dents. The Wrappings are just slightly off but still superb and the sword feels like a part of the wilder with the balanced weight and comfortable feel.

I love this sword and I cant wait till i can test it out more. I recommend this sword to any sword collector or user because of amazing presentation, feel, Quality, Sharpness, and Prices $$$.
