The classic Japanese battle sword in all its incarnations has been celebrated for centuries, not only for its elegant lines and simple beauty, but also for the technique and skill that went into its construction.

Most swords offered today are interpretive copies of antiquities from feudal Japan. They were made for warrior"s of small stature who seldom rose above five and a half feet. As skillfully designed as these swords are, they may not be perfectly suited for the twenty first century warrior, who benefited from contemporary advances in childhood nutrition and health care and grew up to be a substantially taller, stronger, and more athletic version of his historical counterpart.

As a way of compensating for this size disparity, Cold Steel has created the Dragonfly Series. These swords feature thicker, wider and heavier blades, which mirror our Imperial Series in respect to heat treatment, polish, quality of furnishings, and attention to detail, but with a few new departures.

Most noticeable are the distinctive teal-green silk cord-wrap and black samé (ray skin) used on the handles and the black iron furniture that bears the dragonfly motif. Also, the polished blades are more strongly curved than our Imperial blades and terminate in a long "œiris leaf" point for maximum cutting and slashing potential. Additionally, these swords come with two protective bags. There is a BLUE TRAVEL BAG and an intricately decorative display bag that"s made from the finest heavy silk metallic brocade.

Ordered on Friday before MLK weekend. Three E-mail updates on order/shipping status with FedEx tracking link. Credit card charged Wednesday, product arrived Thursday. No problems, excellent service, thank-you!
Best price for this on the Internet. Not cheap, but well worth it and exactly as advertised; be advised, the pictures do not do justice to this product. Fit and finish excellent, blade straight and true: no tool marks, grind marks, nicks, dings, or dished out areas. Everything tight, no rattles. Grip tightly wound and well executed - all typical of the quality one would expect from Cold Steel. Blade sharp, but not shaving sharp - will attend to that myself. Balance point 4-1/2" ahead of tsuba; slightly larger and heavier than traditional wakisashi (as it is designed to be), but blade feels lively and well-balanced - look forward to becoming more familiar with it's handling characteristics. Scabbard also well done and unblemished. This is NOT a display piece or movie replica - this is a serious cutting tool, as is all of Cold Steel's sharp iron. Looked at a lot of other manufacturers, but bottom line is that I KNOW Cold Steel, and have used their products for 20+ years. Have other CS knives, shovels, baseball bats et al, and carried a Carbon V Trailmaster on my web gear for many years. Do not anticipate having to defend against the Brooksian hordes, but if they show up, I've got something for them.
Am considering Dragonfly Katana in not-too-distant future.
    Hope this helps.
Be safe, be ready, be prepared.
