Night Watchman Blackthorn Shillelagh Walking Stick

Height: 5' 8" Weight: 165lbs I'm someone who is good shape but has developed some joint problems over the years. I'm also someone who likes to always have something to give an upper hand on hand. So this seemed like a natural choice. Pros: The materials used appealed to me because being "just plastic" I can not worry if I leave it outside by mistake if I'm having a good joint day, and it can take a good level of daily wear from a clutz. I've been using it almost daily for a few weeks now and functionally it's held up wonderfully. Cons: It's got some give and bend to it. It takes some force so it's not too much of an issue for me, but I could see this being a problem if you want to use this as a proper cane but are in the 6' or 200+ lbs range. Also, the paint on the cap is already wearing away at the side just from regular use, and no striking. Overall: it's still a decent daily stick for me that I can crack a few heads with if needed. I'm more about function, so the paint is a minor inconvenience for me, but it could definitely be a deal breaker for a lot of other folks.

Excellent quality, very sturdy wood and plastic. A little awkward in the hand to get used to, but you’re not beating the quality and price

I purchased this for my husband, because he wouldn't shut up about it, when he saw it in the catalog. Now he won't shut up about how much he loves it. He is 5' 8" and it is a bit tall for him, so he thought about cutting it, but decided he likes it better as is. It is as described--very hefty. I second the reviewer that recommended adding a cane tip.

Followed comment by Howard Handy and coated faux wood cap with a protective coat of poly sealant. Been watching 'stick fighting' videos on Youtube. Walking stick is well made, nice looking, will last for my lifetime. Also went to pharmacy and got a rubber tip for canes/crutches to protect the end.

I've been waiting for years to have a chance to order this cane. I have to say, it has exceeded my expectations!!! It's light weight and very sturdy. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs one!!! But definitely get a cane stopper for the bottom, it will slip on smooth surfaces!

I bought this as a poor impromptu weapon for the few times I can't be better armed. And of course, I wanted to give it a workout/break-in/field test. I didn't want to do what's been done. I can smash melons with my hands and feet. Cinder blocks just really aren't that tough ( YouTube children's karate). And I wanted to really test the stick. So I went out to my solid concrete back porch and just wailed upon the concrete doing my best to dislodge the "faux wood cap". About 25 overhand blows. The cap now has some seriously tiny scratches on it (note: smooth concrete porch). The stick is fine, the porch is fine, anything that got between the stick and the porch would NOT have been fine. The polypropylene tested out to be tougher than hickory or mesquite ( I have a stick collection). BTW, the balance on this walking stick is excellent. There's 2-3 good pivot points down the shaft. I only wish I had a Cold Steel version to do a side-by-side comparison.

After seeing this I wanted it. And now since friday I do. I love it. You will too I guarentee it!

After ordering the first and watching the video of the cinderblock destruction, my husband ordered a second just in case when he broke the first cinderblock, it would fail and he would end up with a broken stick. Set it up and broke that cinderblock without any problems. Has his own video now, just waiting for the zombie apocalypse to begin. Very satisfied

Not too bad. Has a pretty good heft to it, so if it had to be used I'm sure it will do some damage. As for a walking stick. Also not bad. But if you Lean in it, it gives a little, sort of bows a bit. I bought it to use as a cane, for my trick back. We will see

Bada$$ cane.I put a rubber tip as the end felt like it needed it.Great melon smasher-I imagine what it could do to a skull.Feels good to stroll around my block with...This aint Mr.Rogers neighborhood.

Rock solid walking cane for those of us who need a little help sometimes, or if you want to have a legitimate weapon with you.

Is an excellent weapon but it gets dent very fast

very nice Light ,, strong,,,solid ball. One thing,,,buy a rubber boot for end of cane. Will keep it from slipping.

First let me say I ordered to replace A cane thst made me look and feel old. It looks and feels great. It def feels unbreakable, but I like it to much to test it out like the video. Also got for the self deffense aspect as I am disabled from A bad car accident. I will say the faux wood head does scuff very easily. I wish they would have put A sealant on it to protect it, as it looks so nice. Again let me state I just turned 4o and due to injuries I am stuck with A cane THIS WAS DEF A UPGRADE. If I ever have to use it I will post A update. For the price not bad. Ty.

I've used a cane for over 20 years. I have lots of comparative experience with cane heads. This one is too big and heavy to be comfortable. The size and weight of the head would need to be reduced by half to use this as an actual support cane; as it is it would cause hand and wrist pain, and fatigue. That said, it is an excellent self-defense stick. It's as resistant to destruction as advertised. I keep it by the door, in the Just In Case bucket.
