    Nunchaku History:
Although the certain origin of nunchaku is disputed, it is thought to come from China through the Japanese island of Okinawa. The Japanese word nunchaku itself comes from the Hokkien (Min Nan) word nng-chiat-kun(no-chiat kun). When viewed etymologically from its Okinawan roots, nun comes from the word for twin, and chaku from shaku, a unit of measurement. The popular belief is that the nunchaku was originally a short flail used to thresh rice or soybeans (that is, separate the grain from the husk).

It is also possible that the weapon was developed in response to the moratorium on edged weaponry under the Satsuma daimyo after invading Okinawa in the 17th century, and that the weapon was most likely conceived and used exclusively for that end, as the configuration of actual flails and bits are unwieldy for use as a weapon. Also, peasant farmers were forbidden conventional weaponry such as arrows or blades so they improvised using only what they had available, farm tools such as the sickle. The modern weapon would be an ineffective flail.

The nunchaku as a weapon has surged in popularity since martial artist Bruce Lee used it in his movies in the 1970s, and is also featured in multiple Japanese anime and manga series.

I am extremely impressed with this. I was expecting some cheap crap from China, but these have an awesome ball-bearing system with some strange swivel washer. The chain feels pretty solid as well. I am very happy with this purchase for only 20$

Arrived in the mail today after a rather long wait compared to the norm, but I was happy none the less. (I got up early and waited by the door like a puppy for six hours). Immediately after unboxing, I gave them a few test swings and looked them over in great detail. The first thing one will notice is that they are extremely sturdy. No wiggle in any riveted piece, dual swivels, welded chain links and a healthy heft give these an extremely durable feel. Naturally, I took the nunchaku to my heavy bag to test further, (Ordered two, may as well test with one and practice with the other) and they handled more power than I was comfortable giving. All of my power, actually, and I am no small man.

On a less fantastic note, the black stain is inconsistent and seems to be patched with paint near the bottom. This is a small problem in the scheme of things as colour does not define a weapon, but it is worth noting to potential buyers. The colour variation is notable, but not extreme, and didn't bother me one bit.

I ordered mine along with the instructional poster, and both came well packaged and safe. I will certainly order any future training items from True Swords as available. Happily impressed.

I had both wooden and steel nunchakus prior to buying these, and I must say these are my favorite nunchakus BY FAR. The grip on the bottom lets you know the exact location of your hand placement as you switch hands. Plus the weight and balance is perfect, feels like a real weapon unlike my wooden nunchakus and much more smoother and less clunkier than my steel nunchakus. 5/5 EASILY.

Probably one of my favorite purchases, and not only because of the cheap price. I love nunchaku, not to say I'm any good with them, but I'm trying to learn. The handles feel good and are sturdy and well-made. The chain rattles a bit, but that's to be expected. If the rattling may annoy you I would look into a pair with a rope instead of a chain. Offering that as an option may be a good idea as well. Overall, it seems to be a very good product and reasonably priced.

This is my first purchase from Trueswords and I have to say they are well worth the money. I gave one to a friend and we both have been practicing with them and they are well made with a good grip and chain. Oh and if you think that because they are made of wood they will break from hitting something hard think again. I have struck a light pole, a metal table, practice dummies, and on two occasions my head, with these and the left dent in the table and light pole and only knock off the paint on the chucks. Bottom line, the Quality way of matches the price.

P.S. Trueswords has an awsome customer service department with fast and friendly service. If you EVER have a problem the will do right by you. Trust me, I know.
