How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Automatic Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

For the price, this will suit just fine. The spring-assist mechanism is nice and strong, and a simple flick will send the blade straight out.

First of all, this knife is just plain handsome. It's a lot more green in-hand than it seems in this picture, which is what I was hoping for when I ordered it. The blade is gorgeous and the whole thing just has really great lines. Mine came nice and sharp, and I certainly have no complaints about its appearance.
Unfortunately, it also came broken. The bullet accent on the handle was popped clean off mine when I opened the box and the first thing I got to do with this knife was buy superglue to fix it. Whatever adhesive was used in manufacturing was sooo not adequate. I'm a little disappointed in that aspect, but that's my only point of contention. The knife looks great, feels good in-hand, and the spring mechanism is nice and smooth. It's very easy to close as well; the lever doesn't stick like some of my other knives.
Overall it's attractive and well-built, if a touch prone to losing its ammunition.
