How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Automatic Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

The look of the knife overall is very nice, but the blade did not come sharp nor is it "spring assisted" as described. It was just a normal folder without any spring tension. So, the question is, is it worth the 8.99? From a collectors standpoint, yes, but from a normal every day user, I would look elsewhere. I would suggest something towards that is spring assisted and a more rugged design than a collectable like the Smith and Wesson MAGIC series.

My very first purchase from True Swords, and definitely not my last. The color is great, the metal looks very polished, and its easy to get the blade out. The finger hole at the base has a comfortable feel and its very portable since it can easily fit into your pocket or clip onto your belt. The blade is slightly dull so purchase a sharpener with it, but otherwise its a great knife. i hope to get more spring assist blades.
