How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

I bought this knife several months ago and as of the time of this review, it sits in front of me in it's three major pieces. It came extremely dull and all the screws were loose. Seeing only light use it held together, but for anything besides cutting paper or light plastics it was useless.

Not a bad value for $10, especially if you have the tools to keep it together.

You get what you pay for .. At first it's nice, but after a couple of openingsthe blade gets really loose and skrews sstart to fall out.. Don't expect this knife to preform like a Gerber or Kershaw, or save you life .
Lucky True Swords customer service it bad ass and refunded me after sending me my second one when my first one fell apart.

This is the second time I've bought this knife, having given the first one to a friend of mine. I really underestimated this knife when I first got it. The spring is quick and strong, and unlike some other spring assists, it open with a strong, satisfying "snap". The blade is a nice shape, and i love the feel of the grip. And unlike some of the more radical designs, this one is very practical for everyday use. If you want a really great knife, for a FANTASTIC price, then I recommend no other blade but this one.

got this knife today and very impressed, the weight of it is slightly more than i had thought it would be, the spring assist function is awesome, a little stiff at first but loosens up nicely with enough resistance to keep it safely closed, i'm sure when i wear it in a bit it'll be easier to close too, after shipping the cost was only $19, for the quality of the blade/grip, weight, sharpness of the blade, convenience, and shipping speed (ordered on the 5th recieved by the 12) i'd say its way worth $19^^
maybe in a few months i'll give an update to tell of quality over time^^
thank you true swords for another great blade i'll be shopping with you again and recommending this site to friends^^!

the blade is very nice. the ripple effect doesnt stand out as much as in the picture which is good. the blade doesnt come razor sharoo but its shaper than what most knives come as. and for an open-assist knife it folds back in place very easily. i only have two issues with the knife. 1. when its open you can lightly shake it and hear something move as if something is loose but i cannot determin the cause. 2. it feels good and sturdy if you open it with all of your hand on it but if you use the bump that pushes it out slightly it feels almost as if it wobbles but im sure thats just me. all in all i give it a 5/5

I bought the " Ripple Effect" knife along with two others in order to compare them. I must say I was somewhat surprised but, the Ripple Effect is proving to be my favorite. It's light and the 3" blade length is perfect for daily use. I've used it for everything from cutting string and rope, skinning some copper wire and sharpening a pencil. The action is smooth and positive and as of this review it has always opened completely with a pleasent solid snap. The twin thumb studs are also a very nice feature as I am left handed. I have not yet needed to sharpen the blade, but it looks like it will take a good edge easily. While priced at the lower end, I certainly feel it's a good knife and well worth the money. In fact I've seen the same knife being sold for more on other sites! Thanks Evan for keeping the prices low and the qaulity high.
