How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Automatic Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

Recieved this item for christmas. Super fast action pocket clip is nice and tight the pommel ring is just great but when I recieved it I was disappointed the blade was not edged quite right. This problem has caused the blade to lack a tip which I was hoping to have so it would be useful in a bad situation. I will be calling customer support tomorrow and hopefully I will not have to pay for shipping to get this corrected

This knife is very good. I want to start by noting it's construction; The bulk of it is hard plastic, which is solid, but decreases weight. The Celtic designs are plated on it, and are beautifully detailed.

The overall length of it is impressive, being around five inches closed, it fills my hand and is very comfortable to wield. The ring on the pommel is nice if you like to spin your knife and do basic tricks with it, it's solid steel and held in place with four screws. The clip is a little bit cheap, but I ended up removing mine anyway.

The blade is good quality and the sharpness wasn't too bad. (But if you collect blades like I do, sharpening is simple, so sharpness doesn't ever take away from quality.)

Even with the blade out, the center of balance sit right in the middle of the handle, meaning that throwing this knife will be very tricky. (Then again, it;s not meant to be thrown, so it doesn't matter.)

It's comfortable, it's good quality and for 9 Dollars, it's worth it. Would buy again. :)

Beautiful! I always get comments when people see this knife. It is definitely my favorite of the ones I have.

However, it is definitely a cheaper blade and hardware.
While it opens and closes smoothly without any problems, the spring tension when closed is a little precarious. On mine, it takes almost nothing to open it. This is the proverbial two edged sword as it engaged once in my pocket when I bumped into something. Also, one of the screws for the pocket clip does not tighten, it was a little stripped and so the pocket clip is lose.
Nothing some Loctite or J.B. Weld won't fix, but it is annoying I have to do it.

However, at the price point? I expected a lot worse than this for the price point. I would purchase it again knowing what I know. I am very pleased and overall I rate this exceptionally high.
