These swords are for display only, they are 440 stainless steel, they are soft steel, they will not hold an edge and will bend. They are not full or "half tang" they are rat tang. If you try to use them they will break and bend. For someone who just wants a conversation piece these are perfectly fine but do not buy them expecting to get a proper or even semi functional sword.
$30 for a samurai set with sword stand is pretty good. As a decorative piece, it is very eyes catching. I bought this sword with that in mind, but also because of "mel bankhead" comment. He/she said the katana were sharp. But turns out it is not sharp, more so blunted sharp--if that make sense. Anyways, when it was quickly delivered, I brought to the backyard and cut some water bottles. Turn out, it can't cut the damn thing, only knocking it far way. So I went and did a little bit of sharping. Got to the point where it as sharp as a kitchen knife, and took another shot at the bottle. Now it cut the bottle (not very clean cut), BUT!!!! the blade from handle got bended! I bended it back so I'm guess the sword is NOT FULL-TANG. Overall, good display piece, in no way ready to test cut anything hard than Apples or Oranges.
These swords were great out of the box, I liked them they felt sturdy and strong, and the katana and tanto were sharp, but the wakizashi was dull, but overall great sword set and would recommend to anyone, but as everyone would think that a thirty dollar sword set was poor, this one was not, great job budk
