The reality is that the rapier is a very deadly hand-to-hand combat weapon, perfectly suited for the swift moves of the duelists of the day. Many hilt forms were tried early on like the steel three-ringed swept hilt of this Deschaux Rapier. The handle is genuine bone, inlaid with a twisted wire wrapping, making for a very secure grip and the pommel is steel. Because bone is a natural product, the sword grip may have slight variations from the photos shown, giving each handle a unique finish. The 37”, sharp 1065 high-carbon steel blade is light, fast and deadly with a classical design. The 45 3/5” overall rapier can be carried in a genuine leather scabbard with steel locket and chape. The sword weighs 2.8 lbs.
