About Musashi:

Miyamoto Musashi was a famous Japanese swordsman and is believed to have been one of the most skilled swordsmen in history. Musashi, as he is often simply known, became legendary through his outstanding swordsmanship in numerous duels, even from a very young age. He is the founder of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu, or Niten Ryu style of swordsmanship and wrote Go Rin No Sho, The Book of Five Rings, a book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.

Musashi writes about his first duel:
"I have trained in the way of strategy since my youth, and at the age of thirteen I fought a duel for the first time. My opponent was called Arima Kihei, a sword adept of the Shinto ryu, and I defeated him. At the age of sixteen I defeated a powerful adept by the name of Akiyama, who came from the prefecture of Tajima. At the age of twenty-one I went up to Kyoto and fought duels with several adepts of the sword from famous schools, but I never lost." -Musashi Miyamoto, Go Rin No Sho

It is notable that Musashi died of what is believed to be thoracic cancer, and was not killed in combat. He died peacefully after finishing the Dokkodo ("The Way of Walking Alone", or "The Way of Self-Reliance"), 21 precepts on self-discipline to guide future generations.

After his death various legends began to appear. Most talk about his feats in kenjutsu and other martial arts, some describing how he was able to hurl men over 5 feet backwards, other about his speed and technique. Other legends tell of how Musashi killed giant lizards in Echizen, as well as Nues in various other prefectures. He gained the stature of Kensei, a "sword saint" for his mastery in swordsmanship. Some believed he could run at super-human speed, walk on air, water and even fly through the clouds.

Awesome for what its worth

The sword just arrive and its pretty freakin cool. Not razor sharp, to be expected, but sharp enough. if you want it sharper just sharpen it. Took it outside and cut up quite a few bottles and some shrubbery. there are some scuff marks but it may just be debris or dirt i have to clean off. Really great customer service and fast delivery time. Only complaint is the certificate seems mass produced and not specific for any one blade. Reason i suspect that is that i saw another comment with the same name as the one mine had, shirakawa. But as far as the blade goes, its great. Strong, can be used for what you need it to, not like a thousand dollar katana, but still a damn good blade.

This was my first attempt at purchasing a good quality sword and i was NOT disappointed. A great edge, wasnt shipped razor sharp but didnt expect it to be. Holds a sharpened edge very well. No wobble at all. One of the pegs in the handle is pretty long, not sure if its supposed to stick out so far but it causes no trouble with gripping whatsoever. if anything, it helps out a bit ^^. Much better than i expected a sword of this price to be. I'll be lookin to Musashi for more im sure.

Great Katana for the price, Everything was in place and it wasn't wobbly at all. The fittings were perfect and the blade came oiled. The sword was also sharp. This is a great sword for someone who is on a budget of 150$ or under.

Amazing sword it really is paper cutting sharp I haven't tested much of it yet I'm very impressed with how awesome this sword is. There was some shipping oil on the blade but after wiping it off with the paper towel the blade was all good and shiny. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I ordered this sword around the middle of October, and I recieved it 2 days later (perfect timing being the fact I love In NYC).
Even before I can open the package, someone drew a musashi cartoon on the box, and the art was amazing.
I opened the box and it came complete with my certificate, a silk tie bag and of course the sword.
This instrument is a beautiful piece of work. The bamboo pegs are tight and in place, the ray skin is tight, with no open spaces to see any wood and the chord wrapped around the saya feels unique and tight, and done with care. Despite the Tsuba having a small metal smudge, it helps 110 percent with keeping the sword in place, and the spacers are well in place. No shaking or wobbling in the blade at all.
The only downside is it's not sharp, but that can be more than easily fixed. The weight to it is also up to par too.
I recommend this for those who look for beauty and quality, and once sharp, there's no telling the limits of this handmade 1060 blade. Thank you trueswords im going to order from you guys again.
