Well this sword definitely exceeded all expectations I set up for it! The blade is an amazing color, the edge is almost razor sharp, and it's wrapping is near flawless. I'm not sure why other reviewers are having an issue with the pegs though, I'm able to disassemble the blade effortlessly. All in all, definitely a purchase I recommend!

Perfect i absolutely love this sword came exactly like picture but to be honest it still doesn't do it justice the beauty of this sword is astonishing had me breathless when i opened the box had quiet a bit of oil on it as expected but I'm not complaining rather have that then see rust if i could give it more stars i would and I've read some of the other reviews saying it had China on the blade i inspected it thoroughly and found no such thing with the buy never seen another katana like this MUST BUY for any collector.

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!!!! the color on my blabe matches pretty close kinda orange copper look on it BEAUTIFUL BLADE the handle is very nice and ferm the faox leather wrap is amazing fealling in the hands i love it the gold in the handle are plastic like but dont look like it and i dont mind. the fill thing is tightly together very nice. the only down thing i can say is the katana into the sheath really tight and kinda hard to pull out. but there is a and this may be big to some one so THERE IS A WHITE CHINA ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BLADE. but case is amazing very nice stand is good in all id say very wearth it.

This sword is amazing the blade is great quality. The leather tsuka is a great quality that this sword has and is tied very tightly. The blade is Copper colored not red when you actually get it so the picture can be misleading. The blade is great quality and is a blade that will last very long with proper sword care.

this is a very beautiful sword and i have no complaints, aside from CHINA written on part of the blade like other people have stated, and the stand that came in the box is very poor quality. the box itself is very nice, but one of the 2 clasps is missing but that fine.

Everything is good about this sword. The blade has a nice color. The handle has tight wrappings. The blade is sharp. I recommend this sword to anyone who thinks this is a great buy. Thanks True Swords.

I bought this as a gift for a friend, he was amazed just by the look of it, but after he drew it, his jaw hit the floor! Its a very well made piece for the $100 range. The leather wrapping is well done, and tsuba is solid, and the blade is thick, strong, and sharp. Not to mention they throw in the box, bag, and stand as well! The blade is indeed red, but changes from brick red to sunshine gold depending on what kind of light is hitting it. Hold it out in the first sunlight at dawn and you will see something beautiful.

Received this sword in the mail yesterday. The blade is a bit darker than pictured but still looks outstanding. Overall construction is very well done. The word "china" is noticable but does not detract from the overall look. Very nice looking product.

This is an amazing buy, my first Masahiro, definitely not my last. I was amazed at how well presented this sword was, The beautiful red box with a vivid yellow silk interior.
The blade is beautiful, the red color is kind of a brick red, but it is radiant. It is also very sharp, and sturdy. Some cutting out back proved it, I cut some bamboo rods and some milk jugs filled with water, not a chip or any issue at all.
The tsuka (hilt) is just awesome, with a white ray skin and the jet black leather wrap.
The tsuba (guard) is also great, and goes well with the whole sword.
The Saya (Scabbard) is unassuming and nothing special, and I don't know if it's like this with every sword, but it was too tight, the sword goes in just fine, but is extremely hard to get back out.
The person under me said something about a silver 'China' on the blade, well it took me a few seconds to find it, it doesn't stick out at all, in fact you have to look close to even see it, maybe a half inch wide by about an inch long.
Over all I'd recommend this sword to everybody with money to spend.

I ordered this right before new year's. An all around great sword. The coating on the blade look more cooper than the blood red color I was expecting, but still very cool. Probably isn't going to be my first choice of blades to use, but that is mostly because I want to save the blade color. Although I have to pick apart a few of other people's reviews. To those complaining about the color being permanent, it is much like the paint on a car. The paint is charged to stick to the metal of the car. The paint doesn't simply fall of a car, and it doesn't here either. However, if you grind away the steel, then you are exposing steel that hasn't been treated with the coating. And the people complaining abut "crooked" pegs, just calm down. Most swords have angled pegs. This gives the sword a stronger structure. I've never owned or seen a sword with pegs that are perpendicular to the hilt. I have no trouble removing the pegs, although I still haven't been able to remove the blade, but it isn't because of the pegs being stuck.

I bought this sword a few years back, and while it has held up well enough, one thing to this day that annoys me is that its tip came with this wierd poorly defined edge. To this day even with years of regular sharpening, the thick dull edge of the tip is to wide to get sharp. Its lack of even sharpness the full length of the blade and the odd deformity eventually had me take it apart and just leave the blade in its sheath to show as an oddity now and then. Ive never bought another blade from this forge, though swords bought at true swords of the musashi/musha brand often at a lower price point have proved so reliable Ive bought several over the years to give as gifts to those starting to collect or practice cutting.

Beautiful Sword. Definitely worth the buy for any sword collector for the price that It's being offered at.

The only problem I had was that the KURIKATA (Knob) was broken. I don't know if the whole piece split while shipping or if they just overlooked that small detail when packaging. It's impossible to tell. Just apply some glue, let it sit and problem solved so no big deal.

when i got this katana i was very pleased. the handle was perfectly on the handle and it was the sturdiest katana i have ever bought. the only thing wrong was when you shine it in the light you can see rust and when you dont shine it in the light the rust looks blackish but i think it was a good katana for the price
Jul 24, 2011

this thing is awsome but mine had orange stripes aling the blade but you can only see them in bright light and they give it a kinda tiger look wich i love. only thing wrong with it is the box came with the bottome almost compleatly ripped out otherwise 5/5

Ok, well, first off... when it arrived, the scabbard had a scratch on it about 3 inches long, which I found to be a problem. Secondly, the guard was a bit warped, leaning slightly to the right. Also, there are some nicks of silver on the ends of the black guard. There's a bit of color coming off the sword collar, mainly from drawing it and putting it back the sheath. I heard from some other reviews that there's a small word "China" on the blade, but I couldn't find it. The box is beautiful, the sword bag has an excellent picture of a samurai posing with his sword drawn, and it also includes a single racked stand. All in all a good buy, but I expected slightly better quality for the money.

First, the pros: high-grade leather wrapping, very nice presentation with the box, sharp blade, all the fittings are tight and secure, and the balance of the katana is very good (not overly top-heavy or handle-heavy like cheaper katanas; balance point is a few inches above the tsuba, right where it should be). The cons: blade is reddish-brown, not quite the lighter red color pictured, CHINA is in a contrasting color (regular steel color) and is plainly visible on the sword(!) If the CHINA wasn't so prominent, or if it were placed somewhere less conspicuous, it would get five stars, but it detracts from an otherwise beautiful and nicely-crafted katana.

Since I am the first reviwer. AND I am NO sword expert nor claimn to be. I had high hope this sword would be the red gem in my collectio. However, I have to leave it in the scarrab because of several nic's on the edge and scraps on the sides of the blade. The scarrab and the wrapping are AWESOME but the most important part (the blade) is the worst part. Maybe this is the only one that is like this, but i got it. Now, I have bought many items from Budk and have been happy with most of those items, and probably will continue to buy from Budk, but when it comes to show pieces i will spend the extra $50-100 on a web site that sell's real show pieces. The old saying You get what you paid for comes to mind. The sword seems like it might do work more than show. the copper color comes right off with simple cuts (card board). OH well, I will keep looking.

I just had a whirl with my sword and am at the moment satisfied, however I am having trouble getting the pegs out and they seem to be in really tight and seemingly crooked.
Aug 09, 2016

"Masahiro" It clearly says ten ryu on the tag attached to the hilt and the box. "this finish is forever fixed to the blade" more like copper rustoleum. My blade was un-oiled and one gentle swipe of paper towel rubbed off the copper coating. switched to toilet paper to oil it. Still dragged enough reddish black stuff to reveal that the coating is just a cut away from disappearing. However, swift and good package arrival and protection and the inscription was correct.

Got my sword in the mail, fast delivery. Unwrapped it for christmas, was excited for a long lasting friendship. Upon maintenance the pins were aligned crooked and will not get out no matter how hard I try to get them out. This is disappointing because I was expecting a quality sword to own for a lifetime instead of one I can't disassemble. Besides that it was nice and oiled upon getting it out of the box. Although not razor sharp, can cut through water bottles, and is great for stand-alone practice. 2/5, Next time the sword maker should check to see if the sword is quality.

I hate to say it but: display peice.
For this price, it is one hell of a display peice. I mean that in the best way possible.

The finish on this sword is flawless except for CHINA placed on the blade near the guard. The leather on the handle is excellent quality and wrapped very tight. It has a great performance weight which is where it becomes deceiving.
Upon sharpening thissword you will realize that its finish is far from permanent.

The box for storage is great, the sword bag is great, the stand it comes with is a little tight but it works. Honestly its an over all great display peice, and if you want a real eye catcher then by all means grab it.

IF however you are an advocate of any art of martial standing involving a blade of any sort and you (like any true swords man) want your weapon sharp enough to scar the air then you maay want to look for a different sword.

2/5 five stars for misleading description. 3/5 for quality of product.

----

True Swords reply:

At the first mention of any concern we have contacted our customer to ensure their order experience is a positive one and that any matters are well resolved. As always, should there be any problem or concern with a product or otherwise, please contact us and we will resolve it quickly.

We make the best effort possible to ensure all product listings are correct and not misleading as suggested above. Should you ever receive an item which is different than described, or have any concerns whatsoever, please contact us and we will act quickly.

In response to our customer's message we have carefully checked the sword and we found it to be as advertised. Not simply a display piece, this sword is produced with the materials and construction method needed to make it suitable for functional cutting use of all reasonable targets. This includes rolled tatami mats and plastic bottles filled with water. Graceful, the sword will perform best when used with proper swing form. The blade comes sharpened by the factory and we check the sharpness of each as part of our inspection before packing and shipping.

The reddish copper color blade finish has been permanently fixed to the steel using an electronic process, not a paint job or baked on finish. The finish does not rub off, however if you remove the steel which holds the finish then you would expose the steel underneath. Such steel removal could take place by using a sharpener which by design removes steel to hone the edge, and the newly exposed steel would have the normal steel color.

We have made every option available to our customer multiple times, including that of exchange or a full refund. Our customer continually expressed being happy with the purchase and having no interest in returning the sword.

Please contact us with any questions about our products or service. Thank you!

The information is wrong about the anodized color staying forever.
