About Musashi:

Miyamoto Musashi was a famous Japanese swordsman and is believed to have been one of the most skilled swordsmen in history. Musashi, as he is often simply known, became legendary through his outstanding swordsmanship in numerous duels, even from a very young age. He is the founder of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu, or Niten Ryu style of swordsmanship and wrote Go Rin No Sho, The Book of Five Rings, a book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.

Musashi writes about his first duel:
"I have trained in the way of strategy since my youth, and at the age of thirteen I fought a duel for the first time. My opponent was called Arima Kihei, a sword adept of the Shinto ryu, and I defeated him. At the age of sixteen I defeated a powerful adept by the name of Akiyama, who came from the prefecture of Tajima. At the age of twenty-one I went up to Kyoto and fought duels with several adepts of the sword from famous schools, but I never lost." -Musashi Miyamoto, Go Rin No Sho

It is notable that Musashi died of what is believed to be thoracic cancer, and was not killed in combat. He died peacefully after finishing the Dokkodo ("The Way of Walking Alone", or "The Way of Self-Reliance"), 21 precepts on self-discipline to guide future generations.

After his death various legends began to appear. Most talk about his feats in kenjutsu and other martial arts, some describing how he was able to hurl men over 5 feet backwards, other about his speed and technique. Other legends tell of how Musashi killed giant lizards in Echizen, as well as Nues in various other prefectures. He gained the stature of Kensei, a "sword saint" for his mastery in swordsmanship. Some believed he could run at super-human speed, walk on air, water and even fly through the clouds.

Underestimated Sword!!!

This katana is not only a piece of art it is a functional "cutter" that is differentially hardened with real hamon!! What more could you ask for at this price point? I have wanted a katana for over 30 years, but had never purchases one as "wall hangers" simply didn't appeal to me and functional swords were never in my budget. MUSASHI and True Swords changed all that for me. I couldn't be more pleased!! I believe the Praying Mantis Sword is the most underestimated and stylistically "Samurai like" of the silver series lineup.

Great sword

Just received my musashi mantis katana a few days ago, this sword is amazing! All of the fittings are rock solid. The sheath (excuse my lack of knowledge on the Japanese word) is great quality and holds the sword well. The sword does not tip out when turned upside down. The blade is absolutely beautiful and the real hamon stands out perfectly. The blade is razor sharp so be careful, it's takes hair off of my arms, no joke. Great value and one of my favorite pieces. You will not be disappointed.

Thank god

I'll be honest when i first ordered this sword i was worried but the second it came in and i pulled it from the sword bag i knew it was love at first sight. it came a little heavily oiled but a quick wipe down revealed a slick razor sharp blade that i actually sliced open my thumb with by accident. The tsuba feels like steel and it is rather heavy but i like that about it. the pictures dont do the hamon justice but ill describe it as an irregular wave style that you see on all the high end katanas. The fittings and the cord wrap were all extremely well fitted and tight absolutely no rattle at all on the sword. I got out some bamboo mats and went to cutting after going through 6 and no dings on the blade i knew this sword was gonna be able to power through everything i put infront of it. im already ordering another 1060 musashi sword

First off i like to say thank you to true swords because not only is the serves awesome and friendly but, the folks at true swords have helped me so many times and even included a free gift before! and i would like to say thank you guys so very much! ^_^

Now about the sword, this is actually the first sword I've ever owned a sword so I'm just an amateur when it comes to katanas. It has a nice blade that is sharp, the cotton cord wrap is nice and does feel good in the hands, all the fittings are tight, and the main reason I got this Katana was because the suba because it looked liked and had the same shape of the Nietono no Shana and i really want that sword too!!! but it's no longer available. over all this is a great sword! thanks again True swords a pleasure doing business with you as always.
