This 40" daito is an ideal practice sword to safely practice your sword skills while protecting your self and partners. Constructed from hardwood and includes two piece handguard. Includes samurai katana sword style handle wrapping (tsuka ito). Great for training! Bokken is a training sword, used as a relatively safe and inexpensive substitute for a real blade in several martial arts. They are used in the early stages of iaido when a practitioner has not yet reached the level where use of a iaito would be safe. The exception would be when a certain kata involving two people is performed. Then the veteran iaidoka will use a bokken for safety reasons.

Handle - 9-1/4", "Blade" - 31". The balance point is about 8" in front of the handle. Weight - 1 lb 10.5 oz. That's pretty close to the 1 lb 13 oz. for my $ 145 Shinwa real pearl Nodachi KZ132BD. The balance point on the Shinwa was about 6.5" from the handle. So, all in all, this wooden practice sword matches up real well to a real sword for weight and balance. It's nice to have a practice sword with the same characteristics as the real sword.

Great sword Reviewed by on Dec 29, 2015   5 out of 5

This katana is great in my opinion! It is solid wood so that makes it a tad heavy like a sword should be....over all really impressed.
