About Shinwa:

Shinwa swords are made by hand using traditional methods in the ancient sword-making township of Lonquan. The sword-making history of this town can be traced back to the twentieth year of the Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty – exceptional sword making continues there still today. The swordsmiths of Lonquan can apprentice for up to six years before they begin to forge these functional works of art on their own.

Each Shinwa sword is hand forged at temperatures of up to 1,100 °F and continuously heated, folded, hammered and shaped before being oil quenched and then straightened. Damascus steel blades are folded as many as ten times to yield up to 2,056 layers of premium Damascus steel. After quenching the blade is then ground and hand sharpened and polished by the swordsmith on a series of wet stones. Each set of these wet stones contains a finer level of silicate particles, which produces an even sharper edge. In the final stages of this painstaking process, the tsuka is wrapped and tsuba and other fittings are added before a thin coat of oil is added to the blade to prevent corrosion.

Awesome! Reviewed by on Jun 08, 2016   5 out of 5

I did a lot of research before I bought these, as it was my first sword. I felt confident when I pulled the trigger on these and I absolutely love it! I have sliced a few odds and ends and it is holding up perfectly! I would highly recommend these!

With help from customer service I was able to find out these have an HRC of ~45. This is a beautiful sword. Very well put together and the tsuba (guard) has a very cool design. The wrap is very tight and looks good too. Came sharp right out of the box but could have been sharper I think. I got this during the bogo deal and am I glad I did. Only real complaint is that one of them curves ever so slightly to the left and the other slightly more to the right. These are my first swords so I don't know if this is something that just happens and how much it will affect cutting.

Beautiful sword Reviewed by Neal on Mar 10, 2015   5 out of 5

Previous review is totally valid, this sword is even more stunning when it has a fresh coat of oil on the blade. The sword stays in the scabbard fairly well, can spin the scabbard an the sword doesn't come out, but its close lol. One of my other swords from BudK sits super tight and I really like that.

Exceeded Expectations Reviewed by JDW on Nov 26, 2014   5 out of 5

I am new to collecting bladed weapons, and I have been on this site building an extensive wish list. It paid off this past birthday when I received this sword as a gift. From the pictures on the site, this sword was aesthetically pleasing, but when I took it out of the box I realized just how beautiful this sword really was. I'm 45 years old and I was acting like a 12 year old boy over this gorgeous weapon. This thing is razor sharp and ready to perform as intended! I have my eye on a couple of other higher end swords offered by BudK.
