We offer to you this excellent example of the sword of the late Roman Empire! As more Germanic and barbarian tribes entered the Roman army, this longer spatha design replaced the traditional, shorter gladius as the preferred weapon of Rome's soldiers and gladiators. Measuring 39 7/8" overall, this sword offers striking historical detail and appeal. The 30" mirror polished blade is constructed from solid stainless steel. The ornate handle coordinates with the leather wrapped sheath, which is equipped with functional straps. This is an ideal piece for the historical collector!

This piece doesn't measure up to the quality of other pieces I've purchased here. The stainless steel blade is straight and highly polished, but is blunt without even a faux edge. The plastic handle, sheath and ornamentation are smooth, bright and glossy -- I'd have preferred a more satin or "aged" look. It would be a good costume piece, but, for me, just an "ok" display piece.

One of the best things about this sword is the beautiful woodwork on the hilt and ball (forgot its name). The blade is fantastic, it's made out of 440 stainless steal and is mirror polished. Only one word could be used to describe the sheath, and that word is magnificent. The brown, smooth leather goes beautifully well with the rest of the gladius. The gladius looks exactly the same as the sword in Gladiator and is a peice that any fan of the movie should have. Its handle it made out of plastic, but it's definitely high-quality plastic and you can hardly even tell it's plastic. Nothing was seriously damaged on the sword, but there were a few scratches on the wood work. The shoulder strap for this sword is excellently done. For once, you can actually wear a sword and not have it fall off or hurt your shoulder. The sword is a little bit heavy, but it definitely could be a lot worse. In all, the sword is beautiful and is a great value.
