Our modern battle and throwing ax evokes its origins from medieval times, which some might consider to be the present. Whether used as a target ax, SWAT tool, universal back up, or hung above the fireplace; it is very effective. The pike in the back is unswept for better target penetration. The handle is sculpted from heavy-duty black Pakkawood and the entire solid blade is protected with SOG's Hardcased TiNi Coating. Nylon sheath included. 12.25" overall

upswept spike Reviewed by awakape on Oct 02, 2014   5 out of 5

The SOG battle axe is my favorite throwing-axe because of its unique, upswept spike. The upsweep allows the spike to stick when the axe is thrown blade-forward. This gives throwers twice as many throwing-distances, or just a better chance of sticking. The spike may be stuck after only a quarter-turn, just beyond thrusting-range, but closer than a knife can be thrown from its tip, and thus a unique-range among thrown-weapons, and perhaps an unexpected one in close-quarters combat. The upsweep of the spike also makes it difficult to spike-oneself on the backstroke.

Size doesn't matter Reviewed by P. Kovach on Apr 14, 2012   5 out of 5

I must say that being semi-familiar with other SOG products I was expecting this to be a lot larger than it turned out to be. It is exceptionally balanced and amazing for throwing. You can get a good stick almost every throw. But it is smaller than what you expect when its refereed to as a battle axe.

Works amazingly well for throwing. It did not seem the hooked point was sharpened, but it still stuck in a tree just fine. The handle is crazy durable. The blade took a chunk out of my cement garage floor when I missed the target once and took minor blade damages (which were taken out using a coarse stone with easy) My one complaint would be that the metal protruding from in between the wood grips can be rather rough on the hands when used for chopping. Also, this hatchet took down a small tree with ease. I highly recommend this products for any outdoors-man with a knack for throwing weapons.
