Handmade Odachi swords such as this perfectly showcase the beauty of minimalist design! With a stunning high carbon steel Damascus blade and deep red finish, this piece is no exception.
The intricate layers are the result of folding the steel during production and no two blades will be exactly alike. Once the steel has been folded, it is crafted into the blade geometry, heat treated (tempered), polished and sharpened by hand.
Features include the matching hardwood handle and scabbard with red lacquered finish, black ring accents, full tang construction, and brass habaki.
Measurements: 28 3/8 in. blade, 40 1/4 in. overall.
Shinwa swords are made by hand using traditional methods in the ancient sword-making township of Lonquan. The sword-making history of this town can be traced back to the twentieth year of the Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty exceptional sword making continues there still today. The swordsmiths of Lonquan can apprentice for up to six years before they begin to forge these functional works of art on their own.
Each Shinwa sword is hand forged at temperatures of up to 1,100 °F and continuously heated, folded, hammered and shaped before being oil quenched and then straightened. Damascus steel blades are folded as many as ten times to yield up to 2,056 layers of premium Damascus steel. After quenching the blade is then ground and hand sharpened and polished by the swordsmith on a series of wet stones. Each set of these wet stones contains a finer level of silicate particles, which produces an even sharper edge. In the final stages of this painstaking process, the tsuka is wrapped and tsuba and other fittings are added before a thin coat of oil is added to the blade to prevent corrosion.

Couldn't be happier the blade is extremely strong for the price and is so sharp I can shave with it I give it two thumbs up an five stars
Do not let the manufacturing in China decieve you . i agree on the other imitation swords made from there , but these are different. These blades are true to there word for i've seen their formidable excellence myself. Damascus steel can be a bit more fragile than other blades, but their sharpness is unmatched, if your sword came dull btw, these are hancrafted as you insulted many artisans at this point, and humans were never perfect , which does not show louziness but shows that these blades are not machine made and are beyond the functionality and quality of machine blanked swords. YES they are battle ready and are full tang. I give thanks to the artisans and designers of these blades , which is SHINWA.
Sorry but any sword is expected to withstand @ least a few good blows from another sword or they would be useless in battle. Yes the blade would become nicked from being struck by another sword but that is about it. But with a katana or samurai you are supposed use the spine of the sword to defend against a sword blade because of the softer metal used in the leading edge for sharpening reasons the harder metal is on the outside and back of the blade. But if it were true Damascus steel it most definitely should not bend. But what do you really expect from something that is made in china. All they can make is cheap imitation crap.
looks awesome but the "damascus steel" thats supposed to be strong and durable bent while taking some practice swings on some brush, its a sharp sword, ill give it that but, i wouldnt count on it to hold up in a fight up against another sword or anything hard for that matter
This sword is a razor blade it's sturdy and strong, the scabbard is slender and smooth a very beautiful sword. With respect, if your going to chop wood with a sword especially a slender bladed sword like a Nodachi you deserve to have a bent blade, remember what swords are designed for.... Soft stuff. Thank you Daniel of Nebraska.
Bought the sword, loved it when i took it out of the box and the sword carrier. it is sharp as h**l but when i went to test it out on a few limbs in the yard and i come across a 2inch think piece and the d**n blade bent, i thought damascus steel should hold up to a little limb sorry but im really disappointed in this sword
I recently purchased this sword from BUDK .It is very well made ,has an excellent feel to it. It was a nice edition to my collection.
This sword is nice, very sharp and feels good in your hands. The blade is excellent, it has outstanding cutting power and it looks good. You will not be Disappointed. Not a toy!!
