How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

Good blade, wrong color

This knife is well worth the price point. But BudK disappointed me today, as both items I ordered arrived slightly different than pictured and described. This stiletto in particular is pictured and described as having a satin finish. To Me, I see black in the pictures, but the whole blade and belt clip I received is the same silver finish of the handle next to the pearl looking plastic grips. Cons aside, This knife feels sturdy, the blade is relatively sharp out of the box. It appears and feels like it will serve a variety of purposes for many years.

i really like the knife, the only problem is a missing screw in the handle :/

I've had this knife for a few weeks now, and it is by FAR the one in my collection that i carry the most often. This thing is just simply beautiful. The nice pearl-looking grips are on both sides, unlike some other products, and the fake edge on the other side of the blade are winners in my book.

As for the blade itself, it comes moderately sharp, for most sorts of reasonable use. It is simply a charm to sharpen though, since it is so straight.

The spring-assist is a suprising effect out of the box, but it weakens a little over the next few days. Now though, several weeks old, it consistantly holds a good level of spring, still opens lightning-fast, and i don't foresee ever having to 'flick' it open.

This knife is a great win for only $10. Can't pass it up.

Pretty good. I expected the handle to be skinny but the knife is actually kind of "fat" or just bigger than i thought it would be, which is not a bad thing. The handle and blade are beautiful, and everything is of Great quality except one thing. the spring in it is VERY weak and it wont even open all of the way unless you really press down on it hard, then it barely opens and locks. that is the only reason i don't like it. I know mine isn't a 1 time thing because mine isn't the first that this defect has happened to based on the reviews that i have read on here.
it came decently sharp but I sharpened it a lot more and its great now, except the spring in it, that's why I WOULDN'T really recommend it to people who are looking for more of a finely tuned spring assist/ switchblade type of knife that has a nice fast and hard click to it in your hand. i would give this a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

It's a really great knife, but I have a few complaints:
1. It was covered in some oily stuff when I got it, is it polish?
2. The spring isn't that strong. It doesn't flip all the way on its own unless its pointing down.
3. For $15 bucks for shipping, I shouldn't order on friday and then not get it until wednesday.

Awesome shipping, solid knife, know that the upper/smaller edge in this picture is not a real edge, otherwise its great.
