Just received my Shadow Warrior sword. Very simple pack (cardboard box), but well protected. Upon initial inspection, I noticed the tsuka (handle) was a little longer than usual, but it does add to the beauty of the sword.Aesthetics: (5 of 5) The sword is definitely assembled to be a dispay centerpiece. The handle, as mentioned, a little longer than usual, but allows for good handling adjustment. The fau leather handle wrap is tricky. The materials is not vynil and seems to be a little hygroscopic. Although advantageous in allowing good grip, it is fragile and project that with heavy handling it will become unraveled and extremely dirty. Nice sturdy saya. The copper fittings are a very nice touch and compliments the plum color accents very well. Blade: (4 of 5) The blade is sharp, however, not as sharp as I would expect for a cutting sword. Enough to make it functional. However, if the sword is to be used as a display piece, I wouldn't recommend to use for cutting hard materials, as restoring it would depreciate it's aestetic state. The blade has an etched warrior and spear in each side, which by the consistency of the depth and designe, is a dead giveaway to being either laser or machine etched. However, it does not diminish its look. The BoHi is partial and attractive. Overall, a good blade for occassional tameshigiri on soft targets, but would keep it as a display item. Would not recommend for heavy or hard material cutting.Performance: N/A) I did not test the sword on a soft target. However, it will be used as a display piece. Will provide additional feedback when tested with tameshigiri mats.Overall, a very beautiful piece. If intended as a practical piece, I believe it is not bound to last long. For the intended use, I'm satisfied with the sword.
This is my first purchase on trueswords and it wont be my last. Sword is razor sharp,it is full tang. one of the downsides is that whenever you get it there will be a waxy substance in the scabbrd that is kinda hard to get out& shipping was very fast and it is great sword for $100 i would reccomend this sword to anyone
Excellent sword, well worth the price. I'd underestimated the blade cutting only one water bottle and swung too hard that it went right through like butter, I tried the same with one hand and still same results, I really was looking to test it so I lined up 2 milk jugs and cut through with no effort. So then I was really looking to test it when I lined up 4 milk jugs and again, clean as a cut through butter.I've even cut my thumb from how sharp it was. DO NOT TEST SHARPNESS GOING UP THE BLADE.Undoubtibly worth the $99.99.And shipped out almost immediately and had it two days after ordering. I am very satisfied and will be a regular from here on out after my first purchase with this blade. Thanks.
I'm very pleased with this purchase, The sword that was delivered to me for an excellent price and great timing is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you very much.
Not a bad sword. Nice blade. Very sharp. My Tsuba's didn't look the greatest, looked like raw steel, no shine at all. Leather wrap was a bit loose in some spots. For a hundred dollars, I think it would be better to go with a Musashi Bamboo Warrior. The Musashi is a sword that has both a nice hilt and a nice blade.
Packaged great. Pull it out of the bag and it is a show stopper and first sight. Beautiful coloring, deep Plum, nicely braided Ito on the Tsuka. Good quality Tsuka and Ray skin. Full Tang always a good deal. Comes with 2 Tsuba. For a show piece, this is fantastic. For Practice, such as Tameshigiri, not so much. After over 20 years of practice myself, I think I know how to cut. Although this Dachi cuts nice and smooth, I question the forging. Using Tatami Omote soaked for at least a day, still I managed somehow to nick the blade using a simple kesagiri. After a second try with gaku kesagiri, my suspicion was confirmed that the carbon steel forging is not exactly up to par.Again this piece looks great and I plan on using my 10k grain to fix the nicks, possibly even reheat to harden the edge, but I see a lot of maintenance ahead of me with this one. All in all, the price is good and I hope that this will be the extent of my worries for the blade. For the Tsuka, the faux leather is nice. Good feel to it. What I am concerned about is the wrapping. It could have been much better. The trick is to spray the Ito with water as to dampen it, rub it in, gently stretch and repeat. Then as the water begins to evaporate, stretch more and immediately begin to wrap tightly (more like firm). Unfortunately, I can actually squeeze a pencil until the current wrapping and after a few uses, I can get my finger under there. Remember, this is a sharpened visual piece (in my opinion). The craftsmanship does not qualify this unit for practical uses (you know, cutting firewood, hunting, filleting, etc).
My 2nd sword- not bad, no problems.Good price for a good sword not agreat one, but good. The wrap is tight the blade sharp agood buy overall.
This is only the second Katana I've purchased. My first one was the 40 dollar orchid sword and I loved it so much I decided to spend a little more money. I can definately tell the difference. This one is not as flashy, but the balance and blade are wonderful. Both my swords weigh the same, yet this one feels lighter and easier to swing. All in the balance and I'm very satisfied. It is very sharp as well.....
