The prior reviews on this item are pretty accurate; I agree with all except the one stating thickness at about a quarter of an inch (it's half of that). I keep this in a backpack that I carry into my trailer when the road is closed in the off-season; a bit of a hike, and it's a feeling of security to have an edged weapon handy. Although any self-respecting black bear I might come across would probably die of cardiac arrest due to a laughing fit when it saw me white-knuckling this little hatchet!! Handy item for 10 bucks.
The Timber wolf axe is small, its great for small items.I recently used it for pulling if bark for the practical everyday use in camp sites. its great for last minute self protection. very hide able on ones back side of waist.
A good sharp little axe, but definitely would not recommend you throw it. After maybe 20 throws, the wooden handle pieces blew off the axe and now it is very difficult to get it to stick at all. Still good for regular chopping use
Made out of a single piece of plate about a quarter of an inch thick with riveted wood grips, so it's pretty light. That can be good or bad, depending on your needs. I use it to split pine scraps for kindling and shims. The only problem has been that it's also quite short, and if you try to hold it out on the end of the handle, there is a lanyard ring with sharp edges that pokes your hand. Nice design and worth the money otherwise.
Axe is small, but the blade is sharp. Easy to throw in a pack, but the best you can really do with this is chop very small trees, anything bigger than a 3 inch diameter will really be pushing the limits on this thing. For the price, there are better options out there, ones where you can get a lot more force per chop. The wood around the handle was pretty loose on one of them, but I wrapped it in some mcnetts camo wrap and now it has some positive grip. Needs to be a few inches longer in the handle for it to be really useful.
Very well made, compact, axe. Due to the full-tang and great wood handle, has a nice solid feel to it. Perfect for the bug-out bag.
