Command Sergeant Major Donald DeVere served in the legendary MACVSOG, the forerunner of current day Special Operations. DeVere, as the Recon Team Leader of RT Oregon, trained his team to perfection, and then led his team into numerous target areas in Laos where they conducted a myriad of reconnaissance operations. DeVere, and Special Forces soldiers like him, are the legends of many harrowing tales conducted by Special Operations personnel assigned to MACVSOG?s ground operations. Large bowies such as this one were used by MACVSOG forces during Vietnam as not only battle knives but also to clear brush in the jungle.

Good value

Good looks ,seems rugged enough for camping hiking, hunting.Would not consider for self defense, mil applications.Sheath flimsy

Economical and functional

This product has the reach, heft and good balance characteristic of a tactical knife, and resembles similar economical offerings from S&W. Blade thickness (including coating) is 0.157" and it is full tang. Personally I would prefer that a steel rivet (rather than aluminum) secured the grip. Arguably the greater shortcoming, however, is the lined nylon sheath, which needs to be upgraded to a rigid plastic variety. The sheath is adequate for a field knife, but offers no attaching point for a leg strap, and doesn't quite do the knife itself justice.

S.O.A. Bowie Knife

I couldn't believe the quality of this knife, very sharp out of the box. A very tough knife. I was pleased with everything about this knife for the price.

DeVere Combat Bowie

I purchased this knife and it's a good, solid knife. However, be aware, it's the Night Ranger bowie with a commemorative etch. I purchased the Night Ranger too. DeVere was $24.99, Night Ranger was 9.99. Same knife - you decide.
