These top quality, high tech knives are equipped with the Tailwind speed assist opening mechanism which is extremely smooth, lightweight, and easy to use. The over-center cam/spring design holds the folder securely closed. When either of the dual thumb studs is rotated outward approximately 30 degrees, the Tailwind spring instantly rotates the blade to a full open and locked position. The ergonomic Teflon bushings at the blade pivot help make the action smooth and extremely fast. 2 1/4 in. blade, 7 5/8" overall.

How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

The best part about this knife is how freakin' sharp it is out of the box. Never had a sharper knife delivered.

I really don't like these mini-Tailwind knives though as they're a little harder to open then their larger siblings.

Worst of all, the first time I've carried this particular knife on me, the rubber design started peeling off.

All and all, it's still a VERY sharp knife, at a great value, but I think I'll stick to the full-sized knives.
