How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Automatic Switchblade Knife?

Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

This knife is soooooooo awesome! I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the spring is a little hard to open at first, but you get used to it and it becomes second nature within a few tries. It comes semi-sharp but that's normal. I haven't had any other problems with it since I got it... if I do experience any other problems, I'll make a follow up review.

The shipping was great as always! good and bad news though... i love the knife it came extremely sharp i cut myself without even noticing.. the blade itself is perfect the only down side was the spring assist.. it does not work at all, making it pretty difficult to open.. safe to say instead of this one i would keep trueswords "silver shadow" knife on me at all times.. all in all good buy.. thanks again trueswords

For only eight bucks this is a steal. I love this knife.
Extremely sturdy, and the design is superb. The spring assist was slightly hard to utilize at first, but after a few tries became rather smooth. After some light sharpening, this will be my favorite piece. I highly recommend it!
