"This item is great, if we had partial stars it would be a 4. 5 if not a little higher. The packaging was great it shows they really care for this product. It is shipped in the scabbard and then placed into a plastic bag and layed into a foam cutout for the sword and then topped with another piece of foam. Definitely not rattling around it the box during shipping. The balance: this sword is blade heavy. Almost to the point that this sword feels like it is ment to be a slashing weapon. Which is not the function of the gladius as it was predominantly a piercing weapon. It takes quite of bit of force to recoil your sword mid swing. It is not so blade heavy you aren't able to swap hands mid swing but you do have a tad more angling of your wrist during the catch. You also have more angling during the thrusting of your sword as it naturally wants to follow the weight. The blade: this is a Mainz type of gladius. The stereotypical one you will see in movies. The blade is a tad longer than the upper end of average gladius lengths. The blade is 20-3/8" only 3/8" longer than the upper average length. Which in a battle situation means your arms and shoulder are going a little further back while you thrust. The blade is nice and sharp but doesn't have a noticeable beveled until the tip. The tip of the sword does not mess around that will definitely pierce. The blade was polished by machine. As evident by the residue left between rhe guard and blade. All in all the blade is a little long and heavy for my taste but is great. The handle: I will say I'm not a big fan of yellow. And I would have perfered a circular guard instead of an oval. But the handle fits nicely in my hand. The components fit together nicely, there isn't any noticeable spacing issues, gaps or misalignments. The black powdecoat is great looks even and there's not discoloration. However there is a small bubble from the powder coat which isn't a big deal. That said the yellow is chipping off, can't say if it is because it did not bond correctly or because of the type of paint. But it has chipped off in a few places. The nut on pommel unscrews easily if you need to adjust your blade. The guardplate hole isn't greating oversized where the blade and handke meet. Though it does has a deposit of polish tucked in it. The scabbard: compared to the sword the scabbard is quite lacking. It is a piece of wood possibly bamboo with a thin pleather wrapping around it (I am assuming pleather as it does not have a leather smell to it). The sword just slips into the hole at the top, there is no spacer for the sword to keep it in place. Which means if wearing it and running, jumping, etc. the sword does want to jump out of the scabbard. As this is not a fitted scabbard it also means the blade rattles around inside it. And since this is a sharpened sword it does cut the sides and brings debris out on the polished blade. The buckle loops are fairly well distanced keeps the sword up straight fairly well. And bonus for me the distance works well with my kilt buckles though would work better for a southpaw. All in all the sword is great. I would highly recommend this over the many of the other models sold here. Are there areas where it can be improved? Yes, but the overall product is pretty great especially for the price. This is definitely a keeper."
