"I originally purchased this sword in 20’, but for some reason my review was never posted?. . So. . The sword is quite beautiful, well balanced, strong and is so nice to have and use. My only issue was the sheath. The sword itself rattles around and doesn’t stay secured into it; it just falls right out."
"This blade was made by someone who knew what they were doing. All plumb right and tight. The edge is sharp and sharpened properly with the base of the blade left pretty much be and the forward actual cutting surface honed fine. It's quite sharp but I will be touching it up with my India/Arkasas fine edge selection. just cuz I'm OCD about "sharp " Great bang for the buck. Simple yet elegant. I've had a LOT of katanas and this one is the tops. Over time I've learned what's good azz and what's good and what's not. This blade sells me. I'm officially a True Swords regular."
"My Touchstone arrived today. Five days ahead of the date originally given and which I certainly have no complaint with. Even if it had taken longer to get here it would have been worth the wait. For a minute I thought I might have needed my Sawzall to get through the packing but in reality that's good too. The shipping and delivery forces would have to have had King Kong and Godzilla side by side to beat up this blade. This is most certainly a well made blade and worth every penny of tha $350. bucks it cost me to put it in my hands. This is the first katana I've bought that all the fittings are properly tight out of the box. I've had to disassemble and shim every tsuka on every other I've had. It's been a learning process in finding good craftsmanship and materials. The old "You want it good fast and cheap,? Pick two and call back " adage comes into play. This is by far the best katana I've ever personally owned. Its been a long time since 300 bucks was in my league. There's a lot of swords that cost more and give you less. I'm recovering from an infection that cost me my right leg below the knee so I'm not able (yet) for a for a proper cut and handling test but I have all confidence this blade will perform outstanding. My last blade was a Musashi I built from a kit that I passed to my son. It's a good blade made with 1045 that was properly heat treated and since it was a DIY I went to town assembling it. This one I've no intention of futzing with. I dug out all my creative energy with that kit and learned a LOT on the journey. Now my son and I both have fit for battle but still aesthetically pleasing blades. This Touchstone is amazing. I cant wait to get healed up and let the prosthetic guys do their stuff. The blade is quite sharp and whoever did the edge knows their stuff. The first 8 inches or is not sharp at all. The true hone starts in the actual area where cutting will be done. Its sharp where it needs to be. I'll probably do a fine stone honing cuz I'm just anal about edge. But does it really NEED it? Not really. This is also the first katana I've owned that does not rattle in the saya. That adds serious points to my evaluation. it actually has a hiss when its drawn and returned. You know , that sound that swords in the movies all have which I always thought to be a sound effect myth. Oh this sword to scabbard his is not near as pronounced as what you hear in the movies but this outfit has proven to me that it does exist with a properly fitted blade to scabbard. The blade collar holds firmly but not to tight so the blade and saya go together. To wrap up though theres plenty more I could say this blade will compliment most any collection Ih it may be under the bar of a collection of true Japanese works of art but I'm not looking for a safe queen. I'm more than pleased with this sword. It has a special niche in my weapons collectio. That everything is right and tight out of the box makes it special for those factors alone. And the tsuka is real iron. Not that phony zinc alloy counts for a lot toi. The blade I gave to my son had two of those in the kit and they got tossed in the junk box. I made the tsuka out of diamond plate steel that I cleaned with hydrochloric acid and heated up cherry red then dropping in an olive oil and red wine vinegar bath. It turned out a deep blue/black. I do like to tinker but not with this Touchstone. It stays as it lays. Thank you Trueswords. you have most certainly gained a loyal patron."
"I am a beginner (at my 60's, LOL): Iaido and kendo practitioner. I am using this sword for tameshigiri (cutting wet tatami mats) and so far I did around total 50 cuts, the blade it is holding very well, cutting very easy throughout tatami mats, single or double size. This katana has a good balance point 5" from Tsuba, perfect weight and it is very sharp (I can cut a paper with it). It is authenticity beautiful looking katana (black, in traditional and simple style) with a perfect "normal" size: blade 28" (easy to draw out) and handle 11" (perfect for two hands gripping, just remember that each hand has own function - right hand is directing your cut and left hand is making circular movement. If your hands are very large - you may need a longer handle, probably 12"-13"). The blade has Bo-Hi what is very important for me: I need to hear the triple whistle sound of my katana's blade movement throughout the air (one whistle sound is coming from the front edge of the blade, another whistle is coming from one blade's Bo-Hi side and other whistle from the other side of blade's Bo-Hi, when you hear it that means the blade movement is "perfect", plus the tatami's surface after the cut will tell you how good your cutting technique. This sword is serving me as my "budget" practical dojo and backyard cutting katana without spending $$$$. I also like the fact that T10 steel is easy to maintain - I clean it up with spray of Remington Oil after each use and there where no any issues with blade's corrosion for the past two years. I purchased from TrueSwords total five different katanas in a past six years with price range from $100 to $400, this one as my everyday practical katana and other five katanas are for display purpose only, and I am fully satisfied with a quality of all those katanas. "I bought this a couple of months ago, great katana if you’re on a budget it will cut soft or hard targets fully functional and weighted really well a great work horse for 300 bucks bottom line! Very pleased!"
