Odachi

"Just received my Shinwa Odachi today (my Christmas present for myself). It is absolutely stunning, it does appear to be a darker blue ( more like navy blue) than the picture. That's fine with me though. At only 5' 5" tall this beast would be hard for me to handle. This by far my favorite Shinwa i have."

not just for display

"first let me say that i’ve only had this for a few hrs. the scabbard was broke badly in shipping but the sword remained rock solid and it's very sharp and well balanced. the lining in the blade is gorgeous. the ray skin might be fake. i did a simple experiment were the peg is in the hadel, i used tweezers to pull off a small pice. unlike normal ray skin with is hared and krusty, this stretched and snapped like rubber and it’s white underneath too, so it may be real juts sprayed with some coating that makes it soft who knowes. as for the other review about the lack of full tang, "display only" i got this off wikipedia (A full tang extends the full length of the grip-portion of a handle, versus a partial tang which does not. A full tang may or may not extend the full width of the handle.) it's done for handel strength and or balances too. if you want a sword that is functional this is a good one “i wonder if i can just send back the skabber to be replaced, i don't want to let the sword go.” lol"

Ive purchased a few shinwa

"Ive purchased a few shinwa blades if your to pick only this is it. This hands down is the best odachi blade at under 300 as is the nicest of the shinwa line. Both swords I have purchased were real you can even see very slight hammering on the massive blade. Buy it use it love it."

Sweet

"I purchased this one with the Odachi Black Damascus Sword. These are both True Works of Art."

Beautiful and functional

"Beautiful sword, the oil sheen is subtle but visible and the blade is beautifully shaped and honed. Someone stated the blade was not full tang - I feel the blade all the way down the handle - I don't know how this could be proven short of deconstruction but I highly doubt that is the case. the construction is solid, it feels like a million bucks! Shinwa does not have a reputation for skimping on quality and I will not be the one to say they did so. A great buy."

gorgeous!

"I purchased this sword for my husband and when it arrived I must say it was breathtaking! It was very long, being only 5 feet tall I had considerable difficulty getting it out of the sheath, but for a tall man it would be perfect. While I am no sword expert, I did my homework purchasing this blade and I am not sorry I did, for the money it is a thing to behold. Highly recommend."

Better than you would believe.

"This is a superb example of an unusual and hard to find sword.Very well built, solid with no vibration in the handle. The pattern in the blade that I recieved was stunning. Hardly a day goes by that I don't pull it free from the scabbard and admire the pattern in the sunlight. You will not find a better sword at twice or even tripple the cost. The Fine people at Shinwa are doing exceptional work. Michael Gerety,Journyman Bladesmith"

bujinkan long daito

"Nice piece of work this is not the huge battlefield odachi this is the long daito alot of other sword makers sell for alot more. Full tang tsuba is kinda weak but sturdy and has a damascus blade, its only drawback but for the price a good cutting tool and practical."

Electricninja (5/5)

fantastic oil-sheen damascus

"I have two Shinwa swords - this, and the Zatoichi-style. Both blades are absolutely beautiful - a shimmering oil-sheen damascus, not a crude acid-etch."

Stan (5/5)

"its a beautiful sword, highly recommended to any collector of art or beauty."

Q&A

why do you say this is an odachi? When most odachi have blades at least 35 inches.
To qualify as an ōdachi, the sword in question would have a blade length of around 3 shaku (90.9 cm (35.8 in)). However, as with most terms in Japanese sword arts, there is no exact definition of the size of an ōdachi.
Which tsuba does this sword come with? The descriptions indicates a dragon tsuba but the pictures are showing something different. Please advise.
Hello! We do apologize for the inconvenience, the pictures show the correct tsuba. It is not the dragon. The manufacture changed the design and the description modification did not save on the site, we are working to get that fixed now. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
