The Shinwa Makaku Katana is a fierce representation of both tradition and artistry, hand-forged with precision and masterful skill. The 28 1/2” Damascus steel blade is a true masterpiece, with over 1,000 layers that create striking, swirling patterns. This full-tang blade is finished with an acid-etched surface, creating a sharp contrast and making the katana a showpiece of both beauty and raw power. The tsuka is wrapped in genuine black ray skin and tan ito for a sleek, secure grip, and reinforced with brass menuki and traditional wooden mekugi, ensuring that this sword is built to perform. A highlight of the Makaku Katana is its tsuba: an intricate, cast-metal design depicting macaques perched in a tree, embodying nature's strength and wisdom. The katana is completed with a hand-lacquered black hardwood saya, polished to a sleek finish and accented with coordinating tan sageo. With an overall length of 39 1/2”, this katana is as commanding as it is beautiful, designed for martial artists and collectors alike. It’s a weapon and a work of art that will become the centerpiece of any collection, built to last for generations.

NICE

"Bought these as part of a BOGO. If your going to have any kind of respectable sword collection, you HAVE to have a katana! Obviously, for this price you are not going to get a clay tempered tamahagane sword with a Hamon. I, also, have no idea if they would stand up to their intended purpose (cutting through flesh and bone). But, They are solidly constructed, look very nice, and feel good in the hand. I can almost imagine myself as a Samurai! ;)"

Good value

"This and the other shinwa sword I bought seem to be well made for the price and a good bang for my buck. Both swords came sharp and in good condition. True swords shipped my order quickly as well"

Great Value

"This sword is well worth the price. The quality is very impressive. I gave this to my brother for Christmas, and he was speechless."

Not sharp

"The blade I got was not sharp enough to cut paper. After applying some oil and waiting a bit it still could not cut paper or water jugs(filled). May request a return."

Far Nicer Sword

"This Shinwa Regal is far more magnificent then the original production models. This is one great sword, I have used one of these Regal swords for several years, it's one of my favorite swords, it takes a beating and keeps on cutting. This sword also holds an edge very well, I sharpened it about two years ago and is still razor sharp. You can't go wrong with a Shinwa Regal Sword. Thank you. Daniel of Nebraska."

Stout Blade

"Works for me."

Um.. Hi

"It's a nice sword, sharp, tight, has a good balance. I tried to cut a 4 frozen pine, put about a 30 degree bend in the blade (I think I hit the tree at a odd angle) but put it in a vice bent it back slowly, good as new the blade didn't break so that's a A+ in my book. Happy with the buy , I would recommend it I beat the heck out of mine, just don't cut your foot off cus it's kinda sharp."

This is an update to

"This is an update to my previous post. I just wanted to elaborate on my end product. After i posted my initial review i contacted trueswords and they offered to send a replacement with paid shipping. I figure it was just a bad apple and should not be taken to reflect what i think you are much more likely to receive. The replacement did not have any of the scaring, the edge was reasonably sharp although it could use some touching up. The fittings are snug and secure. Tip has a reinforced tear drop flare to it before finishing at the point. It is different then most of my katana but I actually like this feature and need to experiment more. Like in my earlier post it does feel more blade heavy and i think the tip adds a bit more weight. Different than a great balanced sword and at the same time gives it the force to get through targets like a sword w/o a bohi. I really like the tan ito and the tsuba. It might be hard to see from photos, they are monkies. At first it was a bit odd but i've grown to appreciate the uniqueness. Anyways i just wanted to mainly say i would recommend this item. if you get a lemon like i did (prob rare) trueswords stands behinds their products and will ensure you are satisfied with your purchase."

"Absolutely stunning. From the wave patterns on the blade to its balance and weight definitely one of the best buys I've made from this site. As always TrueSwords fails to disappoint."
