"I've received 3 swords now from this subscription and it is 100% worth it. 2 of the 3 were $100+ damascus shinwa swords and the other, although it was a factory sword with a wire brush hamon, it was sharp out of the box and has held up great through a lot of light cutting. Although a nameless factory sword, it performs great and is easily worth more than $50. for a beginning collector or a practicing martial artist(i am both) and at this price you will not find a better deal period. "This is my first month having the sword of the month subscription. Overall pretty cool, I got a kojiro fire dragon katana. It's a cool sword and the listing says you'll get an average of double your money's worth. This time it was an $87 sword and it's a nice one. I can't wait to see what I get next time."

Great Club. Good Value

"I have had this subscription for over a year. The experience has been good. The swords are all either Daito or Chokuto style Katanas, so it should really be a "Katana of the Month Club" but regardless the swords themselves are good for the price. These are from Shinwa, which is a Chinese company, but I would not hold that against the brand. I would expect to pay more for what these are. On occasion there might be a minor fit and finish issue, like a scratch or maybe the scabbard is a little stiff, or the wrap might be just a wee bit off, but these are the exceptions rather than the rule. Even the swords with a minor blemish are still both sharp and overall, well made. I have some higher end katanas that I use for martial arts, and they are better for actual use but the difference is very minor. I would not have any problem using one of these Shinwa blades in combat and they would be very effective. The higher end katana cost well over $300+ and the difference is noticeable but not really materially. The higher end blades have a little better balance and weight, but the katanas in this collection are far superior to the crude blades which are often on the internet or at your average cutlery store. These are carbon steel blades, not stainless."

A mystery every month

"I love this subscription and it's worth every cent. I have been a subscriber for 7 months and I have yet to be disappointed. I did get the same sword twice. It was the black Trench saber with knuckle duster handle. Customer service assured me that it was the first time they sent out the saber under the SOTMC but other customers have mentioned the same thing. It sounds like a few got sent out by mistake. I plan on making a crossed swords Marine corp display. Anyway another cool thing about this subscription is you can skip a month just go to the subscription page and then edit, and it will automatically start up again the next month. So If you want to have an cool affordable sword collection and you like a mystery package every month than this is for you. Remember folks price and quality usually goes hand in hand and for $50 month this has been a great value. Once in a while they do tack on a little shipping as they have advertised, and I hope they change that soon since the site has gone 100% free shipping now. Also I want to say there customer service is really helpful and have always treated me right."

Some decent katanas, usually something else

"I think I'm up to twelve swords from this subscription, now. It annoys me that people would review a subscription-based product after only a few iterations. I've received a couple decent katanas, and a lot of weird novelty items. Twice I received this dumb trench saber which is a modern "tactical" saber with a poorly designed knuckle duster built in to the hilt making it painful to swing. Perhaps it's designed for someone with different hands. But I've received two of them now. Not what I signed up for. I received a katana with a (faux) leather sheath designed to be worn on the back. Another time it was a straight sword with a gold-colored blade. Another time it was a straight, double-edged shirasaya with a rather lusterless "damascus" blade. Another time it was a white, straight, single-edged shirasaya with a black and copper "damascus" blade. It's pretty much been two novelty swords for every functional katana. I mean, I guess I could sell what I don't like, but I'm not sure I want the hassle. I'm probably better off just buying things I like. If I don't like what comes this month, I think I'll discontinue my subscription."

Alright so far

"I guess this is alright. I was actually expecting some type of samurai sword since that is what you advertise in your pictures, not tactical military swords I'm not really into. It was a disappointment after waiting nearly ten days for it to get delivered. The sword and "tanto" initially are good weaponry, but not what I signed up for. BUT, I will keep on to see what comes."

Surprisingly great subscription

"I’m someone that likes collecting swords and various other weapon replicas and I was honestly super impressed with the first sword that arrived. Everything on it is very nicely put together and there are no blemishes on any part of the sword. I’m happy that the sword is full tang and has some nice weight to it. I have many Japanese swords from this company and they are all my favorites due to the quality and variety of looks. I look forward to the next sword that arrives and I definitely recommend for anyone that is skeptical to try this out."

Surprisingly Good

"I was very skeptical when I opted to subscribe, especially considering the numerous amount of cheap swords on the site. All my fears were tossed to the wayside once my sword arrived however! The sword I received was not only heavier than I expected, but came with a great edge and keen eye to craftsmanship. Be warned however, if you have difficulty with FedEx being able to deliver on time as I do, opt for express shipping."
