I finally added the Honshu karambit to my collection and was not disappointed. The knife is larger than most karambits but that's a good thing because I'm a large guy and fits great in my hands. The weight feels good and with a little sharpening, could be an awesome blade. Single edge blade, rubber molded on grip and a hard sheath/harness. The harness is quite pointless however it can be made into a good hip holster/sheath with a little creativity so do keep it. For the money, it's a great knife!

Awesome knife that's well made. Feels indestructible! Ultra sharp out of the box. Comes with a kydex scabbard that holds very well. Overall a wonderful buy!

this was my first purchase from true swords, and man is it the real deal. the handle is great, the blade seems sturdy, and the sheath looks alright. drawing it is a little awkward and it's one of those "stubborn but lets go suddenly" sheaths that makes you draw it too quickly. the harness setup is sort of just weird and uncomfortable but the blade is sharp out of the box and the point is pretty savage. i'm pleased overall with the purchase and i look forward to ordering more products from true swords in general.
Jul 14, 2015

Great knife, looks good and is sharp out of the box, but the harness is awful. Would defientaly recommend this blade to anyone that like knifes.

Best karambit i have ever seen!! Super good quality and very well made, perfect size and sharp!! 100/100
Apr 04, 2015

Great knife for self defense or utility. The sheath with it also has belt loops so you can wear it on your belt if you don't want to use the shoulder rig. I love the knife and I am very happy with it. Shoulder rig isn't as bad as people say and it's quite comfortable but I prefer to where it on my belt. I would recommend this knife to anyone from a martial artist, a security gaurd or someone who will only use it to cut boxes.

This easily became one of my favorite knives, if not my most favorite! I love the karambit design and how many different uses it has. This site is amazing. Cheap prices and, great quality and fast shipping!
Jul 03, 2014

Great karambit! It's a very welcome addition to my collection. Great lines, solid construction. Feels great in the hand. Can't beat it in this price range.
May 13, 2014

This is awesome knife The sheath is awesome if you know how to wear it ..if you don't know how to wear the sheath you might not want to own this knife you might hurt yourself.
Apr 16, 2014

The blade is awesome. Good grip, solid make, and comes pre-sharpened. I've already poked a few holes in myself messing around with it. But its a good idea to have a stone on hand for further sharpening.

The shoulder rig is a bit uncomfortable to deal with at first, but once you fit it to yourself and wear it for awhile, you get real use to it real quick.

As per usual, shipping was good and the item came in great condition.

If your looking for a good self-defense weapon than your golden. But its bigger than you'd expect. It CAN be concealed but only under thicker clothing, or if you have it strapped directly to your body. If not, then here you go. Pick this sweet fella up. Definitely a good blade to around.

Love this Kerambit very sharp makes me feel like a Raptor the(dino)when its in my hand. The shoulder is a little tricky, but with some pratice can be as fast as Billy the Kid.
Oct 14, 2013

A fine piece of craftsmanship. Not for everyday use but it great for what it's made for. Sharp, rugged and deffinetly intimidating...once it's in your hand and your finger is through the loop no one is taking it away from you...
Sep 24, 2013

I am a little small on the draw with my new shoulder harness Honshu Kerambit but with a bit of practice ... lighten fast. The grip is just great and the strength of the blade are a great combination . Thank you . five stars

Jul 31, 2013

Karambit was bigger than I expected. I needed to sharpen the blade upon arrival just to get a better edge. Holster makes you feel like you're carrying a gun. Great knife overall.
Jul 21, 2013

The knife is pimp the harness is ok, not to practical. You look lke you're carrying a gun really instead of a knife, bound to get Q & A from cops if they spot it. Its still a bomb knife though.

first of all the shoulder harness is not crap I've bin wearing it everyday to test its durability (I'm actually as I type this) and it works very well for its intended use which is to carry the knife and sheath. the knife is very very cool bigger than I expect it didn't came too sharp but just a few passes with a sharpening steel and it shaving hairs like a razor the blade is very durable and well made I accidently struck it hard on a piece of tempered steel right on the base of point and the blade held its shape and only had small nicks on the very edge of the blade. the point of the blade is needle sharp. the handle is very comfortable and allows for a secure and firm grip overall awesome product
May 26, 2013

solid, dependable knife all around. wicked sharp out of the box and I cut myself within 10 minutes. The grip takes some getting used to, but it is comfortable once you do. the spiked pommel makes it impossible to do basic spins, but that is my only complaint as it is easy to grind it off. the shoulder strap is crap, but you can remove it and fit the sheath onto a belt. when i opened the box i noticed that the knife was loads bigger than i expected. all in all a great knife though

I am a knife (anything with edge), axe , swords , bow and arrow lovers and makers since 1961 , I am a collector .skilled in handling and have skills in throwing knives not just throwing ( regular and kitchen knives, ,pocket knives axes , swords and spears . Just in case for self defense . And my review to this Honshu Karambit is ; when I fist see and held it in my hand , I felt right away that this is very dependable for use as a tool ,an every day use and for self defense. Once you hold this in your hand , it makes you feel like you don't wanna let go . It very difficult for someone to take it out of your hand . Who ever thought and have this idea in making this , it was very well made .THANK YOU! that is why I bought 2 and planning to buy more to give to my daughter , son , brothers, nephew and close friends.

Again, United comes up with an amazing blade and sheath. The simplicity of the over the shoulder, vertical, discreet set-up, makes this blade a must have for all. If you ride motorcycle, as I do, this is fantastic, under the vest.... Great job guys...
Apr 08, 2013

This is a sweet knife, i'm very impressed with it. It is very well made. It's a bit larger than expected, but thats even better. The should harness is a joke, I plan on removing it and just wearing it on my belt.
Mar 17, 2013

Overall the knife itself is very well made; it fits well in the hand and is incredibly sharp. My only complaint is like that of most of the others in that the shoulder rig is not very well put together, but I was able to adapt it to suit my prefrences by usting a length of camping twine.
Mar 13, 2013

Very sturdy knife. Sheath is a little questionable but overall not bad. Conceals nicely and is right where you need it. Thanks.

This is a very beautiful knife. I freaking love it! The shoulder rig could have been designed better, but I bought this for the knife not the rig. So I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you true swords :D

What an amazing blade! Solid construction with a RAZOR sharp out-of-the-box edge. Hand grip and finger indention are perfectly made and conferrable. The shoulder straps where a little finicky but not to bad. Beautiful to look at and hold. Only regret is it will never see the blood soaked battle it screams for.
Greatest knife in the world! I have too many knives and don't want to stop collecting, as soon as this knife arrived at my door I fell in love. My new favorite knife in my collection. Never have I had a knife as great as this one. Thank you who made this knife! Most likely going to buy the other color too.
Apr 23, 2012

AWESOME knife was not expecting it to be as big as it was. Sharp blade, sharp tip. If you're reading this, you NEED to get this knife!
Apr 12, 2012

This is one fantastic knife. Feels great in the hand. Sheath is superb for this knife. I would give it 10 stars.
Mar 09, 2015

I like the blade, it seems sturdy. However my problem with this product lies in the shoulder strap. Its awkward and is not the one displayed in the picture or on the box. There is no strap that continues under the arm to attach back to the knife, the strap ends with the loop to the other arm. so while still functional, i feel it is not as sturdy as it could be. Also due to the shape of the blade, you can not draw the knife with your right hand as stated from another review, and when you do draw with your left it feels awkward and it comes out backwards where as the blade is pointed towards yourself and the finger grip is in your palm instead of your fingers. I am assuming this is because they assume you are drawing with your right hand not your left, but due to the lefty harness, its backwards. And you cant just switch the sheath to your right side because the blade pulls out left: again the awkward draw. I believe the sheath design and knife are just not compatible, no matter which way you place it, the design of the knife makes any draw an awkward and backwards one. An easier draw for this blade would be a cross draw at the waist like a sword, or a draw at the outer thigh like a pistol holster. But then you loose the concealment factor, guess its just not the right type of knife to do a shoulder harness.
Mar 05, 2015

This knife is awesome! The shoulder holster is pretty much junk. So that's why I gave it only four stars. The knife is razor sharp out of the box. Fits my hand like it was made just for me. This knife has moved up to almost number one for me.
Feb 20, 2015

Great blade for self defense. Blade came sharp and the all black look is great for concealment. Only set back is the sheath seems to be cheap plastic. Also don't think I would ever use the shoulder harness. Coming across my body to grab my knife doesn't really sound to ideal. Not like it's a katana
Jan 02, 2015

Preeety good knife. As the other reviews say, the harness is clunky. The sheath came on the harness, of course. The problem was, the sheath was upside down. Had to take off the straps and fix that. It only slips around one shoulder, which also kinda sucks. The blade itself is pretty good. Dull as it came, but a little sharpening helped a lot. However, the tip was a joke. Think of an uppercase C That's how the tip came. That's the major blow which made me drop a star. Bad shoulder harness: Okay, who cares? If the knife is good so be it. But, come on. Honshu, you can do better than a curved tip.
Dec 26, 2014

I've used an original one of these in a self defense fight once it's sliced through the guys flesh like water, no clue how one from this site would handle though. So I'll give it a 4 for now.
Dec 24, 2014

Sheath is junk! Made my own from plastic green OD lawn edging. It melts to the shape of the blade when a heat gun or hair dryer is waved carefully over it. Just clamp the blade between two layers of the plastic and heat till you get the shape you want. Then fasten it with stainless nuts and bolts or pop rivets. Nice! Get this and go for it !
Nov 06, 2014

I love the knife it is great, simply quick stone and its really sharp, BUT shoulder harness is completely horrible the elastic is junk no matter how you try to wear the part goes behind neck and rubs it raw. I tried to wear it on my belt, normally a 2" belt, it will not fit, i tried a 1" belt it would not fit the openings on the plastic too small . thin. I took case to store none of th mens belt would fit in. BUD K you need to do something about this, now it just sits in a drawer
Sep 22, 2014

I am very impressed with the Honshu Kerambit Blade and sheath, however the shoulder harness must have been missing a strap as the harness does not fit around the shoulders as shown in the picture. I had to kind of wrap the harness around my neck and it was very uncomfortable since it kept sliding up my neck. The blade itself was very nice and has a keen edge. Would have given it 5 stars except for the harness.
Aug 19, 2014

I find the sheathe to be the most versatile sheathes I've seen. Currently I took off the shoulder straps as I'm not the kind of guy to wear them especially with a rounder belly then most. Using some simple 550 paracord I was able to fasten to have a quick draw style which is perfect for quick combat when you need to be able to draw fast and is also discreet. The blade I'd made the mistake of dulling once but I fixed it with some light grinding. Now sports a fine edge and cuts through paper like a knife is supposed to, on some pork it cut nice and deeply so all in all it's a great weapon for self defense and utility work if you ever need an excuse.
Jul 08, 2014

Love at first slice. just to test how sharp it was i rubbed mi finger over it and if i was going all out id be missing a chunk. The sad part is that the tip bent and broke off and now my blade look pitiful. did not even have it for 2 weeks. but i may still get another one. the harness...eh its okay. if your right handed like me just come up with a way to make it work or become ambidextrous with blade drawing.
Apr 22, 2014

Well, The Shoulder Strap Is Kinda Awkward. Has A Suspender Type Clip That Clips To Your Belt, And An Elastic Loop That Goes Around Your Arm, But The Knife Overall Is Great, SUPER Sharp Out The Box, Feels Great In The Hand, And Stays In The Sheath Well, Almost A Little Too Well, Kinda Hard To Get It Out Sometimes.
Jan 31, 2014

knife is awesome. need to put a little better edge on it though. sheath is pretty weak looking, shoulder holster is pretty cheaply made. could def work on re-designing the sheath so it can clip onto your belt or something would make it a much better product.
Jan 01, 2014

The knife is awesome. It is massive and sharp. The shoulder harness is completely horrible though.
Oct 23, 2013

I really liked this knife! It came sharp out of the box. I love this knife. The sheath is yet to be desired though, you cannot wear it like it shows in the picture, which is why I gave it a 4 star rating. The sheath is not too bad though.
Oct 23, 2013

I ordered 2 of these on Friday and got them the following Wednesday so the shipping was as expected. Seems like these knives are made of a pretty decent steel. The finish on these is pretty good except for a few tabs of rubber left from molding the grips. No big deal though, it's not that noticeable and came off with a few minutes and an exact knife. The blade wasn't what I hoped for as the edge wasn't that great and showed some (SMALL) variation on the cutting edge. Also the blade is not as sharp as it could be coming from the factory so I will be giving it a bit better edge here soon. The shoulder harness/sheath, and the reason for me giving it 4 stars, Leaves a lot to be desired. The straps holding the sheath are made of a very lightweight nylon and combined with the single stitching to the elastic strap that goes around your belt in the back leaves little faith in its durability. The orientation of the harness is not easily changed to accommodate a left handed wearer. Just a heads up the picture of the harness both on the box and on the website is reverse of how the harness actually is and does not cross in back. Overall: This is a good knife for the price. You might want to work with the harness and sheath to make it more user friendly if you're left handed or prefer to use a karambit from a reverse draw.
Sep 22, 2013

I've never been into the shoulder harness. So I just took it off and keep the sheath attached to my belt. A good buy.
Sep 05, 2013

When I ordered the knife I was expecting certain things. I expected the harness to be a piece of junk (It was) I expected the sheath to be good (It was decent) and I expected it to be a good knife overall (It was). The knife is just a cheap version of the Cold Steel Tiger Karambit, which means the blade is large, the sheath decent. Overall, if you really want a good karambit, spend some money and get the Cold Steel Tiger, or the Emmerson Folding Karambit. But, if you just want a cheaper karambit that will do is job, then this is the knife for you.
Jul 27, 2013

I got this knife today in the mail and was impressed by the size of the blade. The knife is built very well. Excellent grip, nice and firm. It is solid inside of its sheath, no slipping out there. The harness is something to be desired though. It cannot be worn as illustrated in the image here on the website without some sort of alteration. Otherwise, it is a little annoying for how it wears. Overall, a great product minus the harness.
Jul 08, 2013

I'd have to say this knife is amazing. Much bigger and heavier then I was expecting but that's not a bad thing. The shoulder harness is okay. Could have been better but still works and keeps this karambit close and well hidden. Only reason I give this 4 stars is because idk if it Is full tang or just connected by the rubber grip. Definately a must buy if your looking for a sturdy, well built knife.
Jul 03, 2013

it's a good looking knife, the ergonomics are solid, and the sheath is great. The shoulder strap is not that good, so don't buy it for that. The steel is decent. Overall it is pretty epic for 35 bucks.

Feb 05, 2013

Cool knife, came fairly sharp. The handle material feels good in my hand and the ring makes it easy to hold. It's especially nice for someone with smaller hands, and offers lots of grip options.
The strap, however, confused me, and I couldn't figure out how to wear it after almost an hour playing with it, and I ended up just throwing it away.
tl;dr Buy it for the knife, not the strap.
Aug 01, 2012

Great Knife!!! The only downside I've found is the sheath. The strap system is not very practical, so I doctored it to be easier to carry. The other part is it started to come apart the second week I owned it. The knife is very solid however and I love the feel of it in my hand. Definitely a solid buy!
Jun 13, 2012

there many good things about this knife. but also a few bad things. to start, the bad things are: the harness is made from nylon. they melt this to cut it, and where it is stitched to the shoulder loop rubs on the back of my neck. and the clip to attach to a pair of pants seems like it should be more durable. the only other problem that i find is that when i first got it, it seemed like it should be more secure in the sheath, but that gets better over time. the good things that i noticed is that i wasn't expecting this good of a quality, it is a solid knife that has great heft. the paint isn't super durable but seems to be better quality that its price suggests. it come surprisingly sharp, and this is a knife that i would trust to get me out of a sticky situation. TL;DR: this is a good knife. seems to be tough, cheap, and looks bada**. ill add another review if i find any serious problem with it the future . good job budk and honshu line.Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. Knife overall is very solid, however it is NOT AUS-6. It is clearly labeled with 7CR13 on the side of the blade. Love the design of this knife, I definitely favor the large Velociraptor claw style of the blade over other designs with smaller blades that just look weird. Only major complaint I have about the knife is in regards to the bloody Chinese people that build these things always give you the wrong pictures, and by this I speak of the shoulder "harness" which is actually a single band designed to loop around from your left shoulder with an elastic band which goes into a nylon strip around the back of the neck and down the right side of your torso to clip onto your belt with an alligator clip. I am a right handed person and I mainly bought this for the shoulder harness which turned out to be for lefties, but it still works.. just takes a bit more time to sheath it than it does to draw. A word of caution though when unpacking this from the box; it does come sharp and all that covers the blade is

I like the knife and with a little bit of sharpening, it is very nice. The holster is in question. If you are right handed, no matter what configuration, it is difficult to get the knife out of the holster. With the curve of the knife, it is very unwieldy to draw the knife from the holster and it is almost as if it is designed for a left handed draw which is not the best if you are right handed. I also felt the clamp to the belt was cheap and designed like a suspender. I replaced it with a decent piece and belt loop like a pistol holster. It is more secure and I had a seamstress put a magnetic snap to allow for a more custom way to allow for different carry options.

After hesitating for about a year, I finally decided enough was enough, it was time to add this karambit to my lineup. Before that, I purchased a couple Black Legion karambits here at BudK, which are good blades too. Those Black Legions have a smaller grip, and didn't fit my hand. This knife is about 20% bigger, and fits my hand much better. This sheath is quite a bit better as well, it should stay sheathed and I tried to dislodge it but couldn't I have learned something about sheaths that are "complementary" and "included" with a good number of blades, here and everywhere else. You will quite likely want to see a case maker, to create something just right for you. After all, knife fighting and self-defense are critical to survival, and so is being able to access, deploy and re-sheath your blade. First of all, if you like the karambit line, this is a great blade, go on, order it (or two); it'll make you smile with satisfaction and confidence. Next when you get it; PRACTICE your moves. Ask a friend to help you figure this out, so you'll need a couple of these blades to practice with. Soon after that, it's quite likely you'll want a custom sheath, do that too. Because these blades are great, and the sheath is a second thought. I was a case maker, take a hint and get to know your blades, and seek ways to use them for your needs. Every person has a different body style, and ideas about how to use a blade to defend themselves. Once you decide how you want to carry it, practice using it. The videos used here are for demonstration purposes, and I love 'em. Sometimes they even make me cringe! lol But if someone stopped you in a dark parking lot, and this was your only way out, you'll wish you practiced, and knew more about how to deploy, and just as important; re-sheath your blade. Imagine some geek fumbling around in the dark, getting his karambit stuck in his jacket? Don't do that! Should you own a Honshu Karambit? You bet your ass you should, especially if you want to win and walk away. BudK you guys are doing an awesome job, you have exemplary shipping, great systems in place for customer service, never seem to be out of anything, and prices? hands down, great way to defend yourself. Thank you BudK, keep up the great work.
Jan 31, 2015

Like most of the knives I've received lately from budk, it was DULL and needed a lot of sharpening. The harness is decent if your a lefty, overall, after some work it is a good knife.
Jan 27, 2015

No way no how was this knife securing in the sheath....didn't fit but it was a nice blade
Aug 23, 2014

First off, I am extremely impressed with the cutting quality of this knife. To date, I have not been disappointed with the quality of United Cutlery's "Honshu" line of products. My only complaint is that it too large to effectively conceal as a backup weapon and therefor has little daily use. However it is still a really fun knife that's worth more than you pay for it.
