Product Description
Distinctly modern sword with an ancient soul Boshin retains legendary wakizashi sharpness, adds state-of-the-art upgrades
The Boshin Wakizashi epitomizes Honshu's celebrated knack for fusing tradition and innovation into masterworks of modern sword design and engineering. True to the legendary Japanese Wakizashi’s roots, the Boshin boasts a 22 1/2” full-tang blade that is simply unrivaled in sharpness and durability. Swordsmiths and scholars have long deemed the storied Wakizashi the sharpest weapon on the planet, and, fittingly, no edge on any sword, anywhere can contend with the shear cutting and cleaving clout of the Boshin’s impossibly sharp 1060 high carbon steel blade. It can literally slice through a cinder block like a hot knife through butter, suffering nary a scratch or fissure. But take one look at the Boshin and it immediately becomes clear - this is no ordinary Wakizashi.
More "black ops" than "black tie" Boshin sheds elegant samurai robes, dons tactical duds tailored to today's warrior
Trading traditional trappings and garb for contemporary style and cutting-edge appointments, the innovative Boshin is undeniably a weapon for the modern era. Advanced textured TPR rubber shrouds the tsuka for an ergonomic no-slip grip you just can’t get from conventional ray skin and cord. The tsuka is crowned with an oversized polished steel kashira with handy lanyard hole, and the tsuba snubs fanciful ornamentation in favor of a pragmatic asymmetrical pointed ellipse design.
Deep blood grooves extend along the sleek, gleaming blade from the base of the tsuba to the outset of the boshi, the blade’s placid terminal curve that culminates with the stinging kissaki, or point.
"Saya" love it Sleek, tastefully clean scabbard furthers contemporary vibe
A tough black wooden saya, or scabbard, secures the razor-sharp blade. In keeping with the Boshin’s clean, functional aesthetic motif, the satiny smooth saya is largely unembellished, save the handsome black genuine leather sageo. Even among far more expensive swords, Honshu's remarkably affordable Boshin Wakizashi is sure to become the cherished focal point of your collection, admired and coveted by all who lay eyes on it.
Zen and the art of swordcraft Wielding the Boshin is nothing short of surreal
With its fierce cutting potency and sublime feel, wielding this carbon steel masterpiece is almost Zen-like and beyond description; you just have to experience it for yourself! Truly a must-have for longtime Japanese Wakizashi aficionados, beginning sword fanciers and everyone in between.

It's a heavy small sword which makes it feel just right. When you put this sword in your hands your going to either love it or hate it. I like the heavy blade the handle and the perfect size of the blade. My new favorite sword I even bought one for my grandson as soon as I received mine and saw how beautiful it handled great buy can't beat the price.

It has a nice feel in the hand and was delivered without issue. Haven't tested the blade yet but with the weight it has it shouldn't be bad, real nice sword.

Feb 10, 2022

Seems solid, decent craftsmanship, my only complaint is it has a very obtuse edge and not sharp at all, I can run my finger down the whole blade with pressure. Not sure if it's for shipping or if mine just didn't make it to the wet stone.

Jun 22, 2021

Straight blade, no waves, reasonably sharp blade for shipping purposes, well packaged, delivered early, well balanced, nice sheath, good grip. I am always surprised by the quality that BudK provides for a fair price. I'm no wunderkind when it comes to blades but I like better than average quality, and BudK's got it. Try one, you'll like it~!

I had mine almost 3 years now I love honshu i have come to love United Cutlery I have honshu M48 and black legion..all very sharp and battle ready also got the boshin

Besides a bit of stick in the wooden sheath to be worked out over time, this blade is just perfection. It is very strong 1060 steel, yet it is light and easy to handle and maneuver, especially in close quarters fighting and training. After practicing and teaching many forms of martial arts, for over 35 years now, if I could recommend one blade for apocalypse defense, this would be it. Thanks True Swords.

When I first got the blade it seemed very sharp till I attempted to cut a lemon peel, it was not successful. But the blade was easily sharpened and was still beautiful and strong and now it is deadly and so well balanced. Literally, it’s so well balanced if ur debating the longer version, don’t, this blade length is so well balanced the blade feels so natural in the hand and moves to where you are aiming. Very happy with the blade, highly recommend anyone who what’s a solid great blade that’s functional, pretty and strong.

Oct 10, 2020

Light, very well balanced, it wants to sit level when tided to hip, sharp, very happy with it.

Aug 10, 2020

1060;HonshuBoshin Wakizashi could be top dog in tac swords. Really great balance, overbuilt and ready for serious cutting. No rattle saya(!),cut newspaper out of box(raggedy, but done did it).No b.s. home d as well. Five stars, screaming deal, eyeing the double edge..... PFD/AZ

May 16, 2020

I agree with everything that's been said here already. Beautiful sword. If you have the chance to get one, do it.

Mar 21, 2020

Been on my wish list a long time and now I wish I had just gotten it sooner with it's larger brother too. Beautiful sword great for the price. A must have

Jan 28, 2020

Not going to get real technical but for just under 100 you can't go wrong - Well made - Not a Show Piece but Not a piece of junk - Very Sharp as well - Trust Me

Oct 12, 2019

This is a nice take on the traditional wakizashi in that the handle is high tech. Easy on the hand, yet non slip. The tsuba is very functional, just the right size and shape. The sword balances at the perfect point to get the most power out of a one handed swing. With two, it is awesome. The saya is a nice firm fit with no rattle. The leather wrap allows for a very good grip to draw this amazing zombie killer!

Sep 16, 2019

I really like the feel of the sword. It's easy to sharpen and just plain out feels great to wield. I'll eventually purchase the Honshu Katana and broadsword as well.

Jul 14, 2019

BudK, Shopping is easy Product delivered by the US Mail That all said the sword is still made in China it is not without flaws the blade has some polish issues just before the bosie on the right side. The T20 screws on the handle are not flush and were loose easy fix, The plastic on the saya above the leather wrap was not glued on and fell off when I first pulled the blade out, again a easy fix. This is what it is for the money a under a hundred dollar Wakizashi that you can use without worry and great to practice with. I am not saying that it would not do what the sword was built for and it would be a good choice over many others in the same price range. Heavy, well balanced sword sharp blade out of the box is 22 and a half inches, longer than most Wakizashi swords by 2 1/2 inches It does not fit too tight in the sheath but does not fall out either. The blade must be cleaned and oiled after unpacking all in all old meats new.

May 28, 2019

This sword is super sweet. Built with quality in mind. Fit and finish is great...it goes well with my double edged sword of the same make...just super impressed with this sword...

Mar 02, 2019

This wakizashi was ordered at the same time as its katana and I really like them both but this one is my preferred blade. It has more weight but I can still easily wield it one handed because it is well balanced. I love the style and balance on this blade. I am very happy.
Jan 22, 2019

I have not tried to cut anything with this but it looks like it would work well. I would have to get VERY picky to make any complaints about this sword. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I wanted a matching pair.
Aug 28, 2018

this is a great little sword like a modern tactical samurai sword it had a good edge on it the scabbard is excelent good grip ruberized feel to it, no slip. this really exceeded my expectations. could you fell an oak tree with it? probably not, but why would you want to grab an axe or hatchet. i like this one so much ill most likely end up getting its big brother for the low price of a mere $119.99 ive got several of these honshu boshin brand swords and knives and ive found them to all be of exceptional quality for those of us wanting a zombie tool sword but not willing tp pay that much for one.
Jan 19, 2018

this is an amazing sword. it looks awesome and feels great in your hands. I am definitely going to buy its big brother and littler brother. got to collect the whole set. lol you will not regret getting this sword. it is a beast. solid, sturdy, and dependable. not going to give all the science and stats of previous reviews. get this sword. I highly recommend it.
Nov 25, 2017

This sword looks good, balances well, and is built like a tank. Nothing second rate here! And, it actually arrived SHARP!!! That's a first for me. I think this is the most usable sword I have ever purchased!!!
Jun 29, 2017

Sword arrived in great condition. No flaws, scratches, or other impurities noticed. Blade already sharpened. Grip is fine. This is a fine addition to any collection. :-)
Jun 21, 2017

JUST OPENED NEW SWORD, EXTREMELY SHARP OUT OF BOX. VERY NICE QUALITY. GREAT BALANCE. VERY NICE ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION. WILL PURCHASE MANY MORE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
Jun 10, 2017

Re: My initial assessment. In my earlier rating I quibbled about the length of the grip. I am inclined to retract that quibble. The extra inches allow the tip to be extended or withdrawn without changing position, by allowing the grip to move within the hand(s). It is an interesting feature - one I hadn't addressed before - and could be a tactical asset in blade combat. However, while any points are given for overall design, balance and utility, I must grouse ever so slightly about the plastic wrapping around the wood scabbard. At the mouth of the scabbard, the fit of the plastic to the wood is... awful. Functional and utilitarian, but... awful. The wood of the scabbard is exposed there at the mouth in a totally non-Wabi way. I await the delivery of my second Boshin Wakizashi to make comparison. I also agree with those who would have preferred a scabbard with a more modern market in mind. The grip is modern. The pommel is modern. But the scabbard is designed to be worn under a Kimono Sash. Fail. A more ambidextrous modern belt style scabbard attachment would be optimal. But this is a mean, cutting, utilitarian blade. Casca would approve.
Jun 10, 2017

I own useful swords. Not fantasy, not junk, not Premium/Bespoke, but Useful. I don't do long swords... Katana, European, whatever. Long swords aren't "useful" in a modern context (where swords of any type are an anachronism). I have a useful length "Zatoichi" type sword... cut down from 29" to 24" and retempered. I have a Gladius and a Quama. Blades over 24" are just pointless to me, so I ordered the Boshin Wakizash. I picked it up from the POB today... and ordered a twin within the hour. Honest Opinion/Review: The balance is good, though not "ideal" FOR ME. The grip is a half a hand too long - FOR MY STYLE. But the steel is good, the grip positive, the balance learnable and the blade length is just short of perfect for me. I could wield this all day and be happy. At less than $100 for a USEABLE sword that ALMOST fits MY criteria for a $2000+ Bespoke hand-fitted sword, I have no complaints AT ALL.
May 24, 2017

Its been a week I've had the Honshu boshin tactical wakizashi. Never want to put it down ! It is full tang, I took the handle screws out, and seen the thick steel blade.( I think its important to clean and lube this area) All my friends love it. It is a serious weapon. I want another because 1 aint enough ! Love it !!
May 09, 2017

I've wanted this one as soon as it came out- and finally bought it, after thorough research. The mixed reviews made me doubtful, but I have 0 regrets about this purchase. I love this blade. It's sturdy, sharp, and straight. I couldn't have asked for a better product if I hand-picked the best out of the pile myself. The appealing design isn't the only great thing about this blade. If you are considering purchasing this sword, do it. You will not regret it.
Mar 21, 2017

This pretty cool item is off the chain, got 2 of them for twice the fun, these blades cut very good, slick design, although it had some residue on it that being the only downside, tremendously awesome swords nonetheless
Feb 11, 2017

This sword is a very well balanced piece when wielded one handed. With two hands it takes some handling to get used to it, it has a short feel if you are used to 28" blades. It is a very solid cutter, no drag. This is an excellent buy for the money, in fact I was surprised at its solid construction. The pictures and videos on line do not do it justice!
Jan 30, 2017

Could have a stronger pummel connection. The bolt or screw broke with the pummel.. After a strong hit against a g2 bottle. The handle is fine an the sword still works great. Just the balance is massed up now.
Jan 14, 2017

I'm new to the world of sword purchasing but I plan to educate myself and improve as I learn more about the weapons of old. Anyways, I enjoyed the blade after receiving it in the mail. It felt reliable and functional. The sword doesn't rattle when in the scabbard. When I drew the sword and got the feel of the weight distribution it felt balance and like an extension of my arm. I look forward to doing mock practice with the sword. So far I'm satisfied with this purchase. I don't any complaints so far as a new comer to this sword.
Jan 10, 2017

Just got this sword yesterday. When I first saw it, long before I decided to buy it, obesity thought of this weapon crossed my mind: Tradition meeting Modern. That's what I think of whenever I look at it. A traditional blade, fitted with a modern style handle. It's simply amazing. This thing came razor sharp right out of the box. What I like about it the most, is how solid it is. The fact that the sword is full tang alone makes it solid, but thenot Honshu takes it a step further by fitting the full tang into a modern style handle with a tough grip. I do not have to worry about this thing going anywhere at all. I was even more surprised to notice that the blade doesn't even wobble while in the saya. This sword might be shorter than a traditional katana, but the saying is true: Big things come in small packages. This weapon is a true force to be reckoned with. 5 out of 5. No contest.
Dec 27, 2016

I wanted it the moment I saw it and I absolutely love it. There was a bit of a sticky residue on the blade but I cleaned it off so no big deal
Dec 09, 2016

I have spent my adult life seeking the perfect katana sword. Well here it is. Perfect length for urban combat. Non slip grip, built for the largest of hands. Blade is 22 and a half inches, longer than most Wakizashi swords by 2 1/2 inches. The weight is that of a loaded .45, this one won't run out of ammo. You can pack this Honshu with no problem. A must for a bug-out bag, really.a full 5 Stars for this honey of a sword!
Nov 26, 2016

Just got mine this week. Heavy, well balanced sword. Very sharp. Not cheap in any way. Instantly one of my favorites. For the price you can't go wrong.
Nov 18, 2016

I just got this and the Honshu war sword from Budk and love them both but this one the most. It is scary sharp out of the box has a nice weight and I like the curved pommel design. If you are on the fence about buying either I'd say just go for it. I'm going to keep this as my go to quick home defense sword. I like it that much. It does not fit too tight in the sheath but does not fall out either, just a nice fit! Sheath is a good looking one as well with the leather wrapping.
Nov 04, 2016

For the price it is great! It is functional and could be used in a battle. But that does not mean I would go and fight the 300 Spartans with it . (lol). I collect many different types of swords by many different makers. They all would have different purpose if we were in medieval times. As an example, a sword like this I might take to the village mart with me for protection from thieves. If I was going to battle on a field against a kings army I may look for a more expensive well built sword. If you want a better built sword from this website you might want to check out the cold steel section. Cold steel swords are more expensive but they truly are stronger. I have both Honshu and Cold steel swords at home, as well as other names I wont say because this site does not sell them and that would be unfair to budk. Lol
Nov 01, 2016

The blade looks very nice. I am pleased to see the grip/pommel has a slight influence from the Cossack/Kazak Sahsqua.
Oct 21, 2016

Not Exactly What I Was Expecting, But Its Really Nice Still, I Was Expecting It To Basically Mirror The Honshu Tactical Wakazashi In Every Way But Its Not Anything Like It Really, Doesnt Have The Habaki, Has A Hollow Grind And Secondary Edge Bevel, And Is A Tad Bit Longer Overall! The Only Issue I Have with It Is When I Received It, It Had A Thick Coat Of Wax On It That I Had To Wash Off, It Felt Like The Blade Had Been Diped In Rubber But A Quick Wash With Hot Water Fixes That.
May 16, 2016

Mine arrived on time and undamaged. This is an amazing sword. First off, the saya is exceptional for this price point. It has a real koiguchi to support and protect the open end of the saya, and fits the habaki very well. There is absolutely no rattle when the blade is properly seated. The kurigata is nicely attached, and has inset, metal, shitodome to support the sageo. The sageo itself is nice woven cotton that is soft and feels very traditional. The leather wrap above and below the kurigata makes this a saya that will will STAY in my obi or in the K clips on my backpack. As to the sword itself. This is a nicely balanced blade made of 1060 steel that has a solid temper. It passed an ANSI file test at more than 40 HRC, probably closer to 50. There is no hamon, so this is that hard all the way through! Mine came perfectly straight, with a very even geometry. Not a wave or ripple in any of the curves or angles. The hi and shinogi are very well placed, and I must say, this sings with a very nice note when swung correctly. I distinctly heard all three notes of the traditional tachikaze when my sensei demonstrated that it was possible to get this modern weapon to do traditional things. I am very pleased with this sword. This is a weapon. It has now become my primary home defense tool. I still have the Musashi Bamboo Warrior in the bedroom, in case the zombie gets that far, but this one has pride of place next to the front door to greet any unpleasant callers.
May 10, 2016

Sorry, i apparently bought the last one... I just got mine in today and I'm extremely happy. Mine came to me razor sharp and not one flaw, I know I looked. It has 1060 high carbon steel written on the blade. This sword feels like on extension of my arm, it's well balanced and easy to swing with one hand but even better with two. I can't believe how beautiful and functional this weapon is. This is no wall hanger, its an actual functioning wepon. I ordered it on Saturday and got it Tuesday morning, now that's fast shipping that only Budk can do. This sword is definitely worth every penny.
Apr 30, 2016

I'm glad I purchased this sword for my collection; all new technology is applied to a classic weapon and the results are a line of products both practical and incredibly aesthetic. The sword is well balanced, handles as if it was part of your arm. The blade is sharp, thick and strong yet easy to maneuver. The handle is solid and ergonomic and the pommel counterweights and complements the whole sword for swift and powerful thrusts. It's perfect! Thanks!
Apr 05, 2016

I have no words I am still speechless all I can say is I'm a very satisfied customer!!!!!!
Apr 04, 2016

i just received this sword and wow this one is made for combat i will be getting another one to put in my collection because i am going to use the heck out of this one to see how it holds up it performs like it looks and feels i highly recommend it, and i will be putting it through some tough tests including crossing blades with some Damascus blades we have so this review is to be continued.
Apr 01, 2016

I wasn't expecting the awesomeness that this sword has. The blade on mine is sharp fresh out the box, the handle is not just cool looking but has an incredibly comfortable grip and good weight for a wakizashi. Overall 5 stars! I am extremely pleased with this sword. I really hope that there will be a boshin katana produced in the future!......
Mar 24, 2016

This wakisashi has everything you would expect from the honshu line. Except the edge. The edge not only was dull but was filed at a hard angle. It's fixable but a little inconvenient. Otherwise a good quality piece.
Jan 23, 2022

They should not say how sharp the sword is, it bearly has an edge I will need to order a sward sharpening stone to get an edge I want. But it is built very well, mine is also well balanced. Reminded me of old sword. I really miss my 200 year old Japanese sward. But alas someone wanted it more than I did.

Feb 04, 2021

The sword is beautiful along with the custom engraving. Haven't tested it yet, but I can tell its not sharpened even after I called twice and they assured me it would be. I would gibe 5 stars if it had been sharpened like I was promised. Other than that, it's a beautiful blade and I like the long handle on it which allows the use of two hands if needed. It has a good weight to it as well, and the sheath appears to be well made.

Jun 20, 2017

Starting with the hilt, the fittings are all very tight and the handle has an intimidating gun grip design; however, this pattern tends to chafe my fingers after moderate use and the angular pommel provides more than enough slip-protection. The scabbard is light and, while it is cosmetically appealing, has a black plastic cover on the wooden core that scratches easily. The leather wrapping and the cotton sageo are both well done, and the blade is tight in the scabbard (too tight at first, but it loosens up with use). On to the main event, the blade as a whole is very sturdy and seemingly well tempered, yet I have three major issues with it. First, it has a point of balance 1.5" from the handguard which makes it a bit unwieldy to swing; I feel if it had a half or no bo-hi, the balance shift might offset the added mass (though I suppose that's merely preference). Second, reminiscent of a kitchen knife, the edge on this sword is a secondary bevel, which doesn't last on anything tougher than jugs or pool noodles (i.e. branches). Third, the geometry between the edge and the bo-hi is concave from the guard to the yokote (for whatever reason, the blade geometry on the tip is convex); concave means I cannot put a better edge on the blade lest it be too thin. When the beveled edge is sharpened, it suits my light and occasional usage, and makes for a decent "beater" sword that will last for quite a while.
Dec 30, 2016

I love this sword except for one or two small details. First the blade on the one I got has a slight warp in it. Not enough to really hurt but it is there just the same. Second there is no hardness rating, ok its made out of 1060 steel but if it wasn't hardened that doesn't really mean a whole lot.
Dec 08, 2016

Just got mine today and very excited to get to start using it. I only had a chance to handle it about 20 minutes this morning before heading to work and a few things i wanted to mention. I really like a lot of the modern designs of Honshu and United Cutlery. I've ordered several products from the tactical wakizashi to the tantos, the gladius and jungle toothpicks and tanto machetes. The machetes have been great, super affordable and pretty cool and fun. The tactical waki and tanto on the other hand i had problems with. They looked great but in regards to function they seemed to not have a lot of heft in the blade. This Boshin Wakizashi has exceeded all of my expectations and is by far the best Honshu product i've purchased. The leather wrap on the saya has a nice feel and look. Saya is wood which is a plus, decent quality too from what i could tell. Handle has a recurve to it and I believe the tang runs all the way to the pommel at the bottom of the handle. The angle the pommel takes grips your hand as you swing preventing it from sliding and gives a great grip. That pommel is heavy duty metal too, could be a serious "attitude adjuster". Blade is thicker and heavier than their tactical wak/tanto which i think is a huge improvement on these smaller/shorter blades. I'm 6' 3'' and although this is a "Wak" the handle is large enough for two hands comfortably for power cuts or parrying etc. Seems fairly sharp, will have to do some test cutting over the weekend if i don't freeze and die with my heat being broken (:D). The tsuba (handguard) is similar to a simple bayonete protruding disc which is thick enough to be functional. Has a tactical feel and Is something I could see strapping to my back or waist. Only downside i see so far is that my blade came with a very sticky glue substance coating the blade. I don't mind wiping that off and cleaning it but worry that the glue is on the inside of the saya and will need repeated cleaning. All in all very pleased, think this product has made a lot of improvements where other honshu products have come up short.
Dec 06, 2016

Although this is not a show piece or something I would take into battle I am very satisfied with my purchase of this item. It is a modern take on a a classic type of weapon. Fun to hold in you hand and practice with, if i was to drop it etc. I would not be as bummed out as if I had a more expensive show piece in my hand at the time. Heavy piece made out of quality materials, I have to say I like it very much and the people at United should be pleased with this design as I am. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this piece. The scabbard is well made and holds the blade nice and snug.
Apr 18, 2016

I received mine today. I was impressed is an understatement! It is a sword. It matches the other Honshu knives I have. It is a solid piece. The balance is fine. This is a bit heavier than other Wakizashi's I have had because I believe the blade is a tad bit thicker plus the full tang being a bit beefier. The slip free TPR is a bit sharp at first but I imagine in time will wear a bit. The guard is adequate - too shallow on top but fine on the bottom. Definitely swings better with a two-handed grip but manageable with one. The scabbard is adequate - holds the sword well. I only wish they used a more modern means of attaching the sword to a belt rather than a traditional look. All in all it is a solid home defense piece, a battle ready weapon should Zombies knock at your door, and a great modern rendition of a Wakizashi.
Apr 16, 2016

Some will argue its not a real sword, but for the price absolutely stunned!!! :) Good size curve weight and sheaths nice, can hold upside down and even jiggle a good amount with no worry of it coming out. The absolutely only complaint i have is only once in a while its seems to get caught up when its almost all the way in, and i gotta take like half way back out and put back down again.
Apr 06, 2016

I just received this sword in this morning. It came with a nice box. Everything is good, but the blade look like the knives than a sword!
Jun 26, 2017

This sword is really great. Comes sharp, looks great, good balance. Only problem is that when I was testing it out the pommel broke right off. There's a bolt where the pommel screws on and then is glued in place and that is a weak point. Hit anything beside a water bottle and the vibrations tavel downt he handle and pop the pommel off.
Jun 03, 2017

the blade has a slight curve in it, almost straight but not there. not nearly as sharp as i need it. but the blade is heavy duty and solid as it should be. over all i would say worth every penny. but your not going to buy a perfect sword at under 100$.

okay first off I'd like to say for the price and metal used this is a great price for a short sword. I bought this a while back and it was packed to the best it could be the saya had a crack in it that needed to be fixed. probably from transit or the shipping company. the next issue I'd noticed was once I saw the blade the blade was sticky as if someone had done test cutting with it okay I don't have any issues with getting a demo/test blade the least that could of been done is to have cleaned off the blade. again not a big issue however as I look closer at the blade and handle alignment the tang is not straight with the blade and needed to be straitened back out. please note this was before any cutting was done by myself. the edge out of the box was sharp not razor sharp. it cut quiet well out of the box. a nice heavy blade. a good heat treat and tempering. a good grip. the reason why I'm giving three stars is some of the larger defects that came while opening the box. despite all the great things about it this was my experience. the bad with this experience could have been prevented with looking over the products before packaging. not everyone will have the experience I had and would hope it to be better than mine. I bought mine back in January, and used it exclusively. The blade was decently shaped and(from my knowledge) was tempered and stood up to its tests. The blade came pretty sharp, but not as sharp as it should be. I was pretty happy with the purchase, until today I was doing some very soft cutting on water bottles when the pummel popped off. The tang inside had broken and it was held on by appoxy. When it comes to the scabbard( not that this matters) it was poorly made and, though the Saigo was well tied, the "leather" wrapping became undone when the appoxy wore off. For a while there, I was happy with the purchase until it showed its huge flaws.
