Sword wielding experience at its most thrilling, swordcraft at its peak
Shinwa's "Provenance" Tachi breathes new life into an ancient Japanese sword that predates the legendary katana by centuries. Though little known outside niche sword enthusiast circles, the "tachi" is one of Japan's great ancestral swords - a pivotal foundation stone on which Japan's unrivaled swordcraft tradition is built, and a direct predecessor to its decidedly more famous descendant, the ubiquitous katana. But make no mistake - the tachi is no mere "katana prototype," and the Provenance IS no exception. Like all tachi, the Provenance boasts form and function all its own - distinctive appointments, a unique look and feel and real-world combat capability that keeps pace with and often bests that of the katana. It should come as no surprise; after all, the elder tachi was slaying foes by the thousands and proving itself on the battlefield centuries before the first katana was even a twinkle in a swordsmith's eye. And though its profile, dimensions and overall aesthetic configuration are largely faithful to history, some of Provenance's key features buck tradition in favor of a more inventive approach………..

Some Damascus steel have better patterns than others, no two alike. this one has superb patterns and is extremely sharp. This Shinwa is a winner.

Buy this now. Now.

Been a collector for 15 years, regularly practice cutting. Bought the orange version of this design, and it is my new favorite for live use. Own pieces that I paid 5 and 6 times as much for, this is REAL QUALITY for heavy practice. Comfortably between more traditional katana length and the compactness of a wakizashi at a price point that will make it a go to for cutting so you can keep your pretty stuff pretty. Shine a has never failed to impress me, and BudK specials cannot be beat. PERFECT first sword for a younger student to cut with, well appointed enough to give as a gift. Bravo!!!!

Surprising value

Sleeper. Leaf shape and slightly springy Damascus blade which gets stupid sharp lightly polished with a 1000 grit ceramic stick mean we won't be spending three hundred bucks on a temeshigiri blade. Mine was pristine, oil leak in cleaning kit was fine at this discount. Buy at least one.

beautiful & deadly

I love my tachi. The craftsmanship is very good. Everything fits tightly. The blade looks stunning and is razor-sharp. Great deal for the price!
