Gavilan Colombian Cane Hook Machete - 1074 High Carbon Steel

Got 4 of these on BOGO. In its shipped form a couple of the edges were burred and the handles are gapped and not flush with the tang all around. The blade is a little thinner than had hoped, but being I bought them to bubba into the style of a poor mans daikaiju/ thai enep I think the reduced front weight should help make it feel stiffer. In the quick chopping tests I did the blades held an edge well even cutting through some dead hard wood. Overall for $5 a pop I am more than satisfied.

After you sharpen it you will have a Great Machete that can take a beating and last a long time.

This is the best machete I have ever had. Its heavy enough to do some heavy work and has a nice long wooden handle. Looks like you can use it to flip some burgers too. I'm sure if an intruder saw you coming at them with this in the middle of the night they`d faint.

Looked for a while trying to find a good machete and finally settled on this one. When I first tried it wouldn't cut very good, but after sharpening started cutting a lot better. I like the hook on the end, good for raking up limbs and what-have-you. Nice machete, quality blade, handle.

Great looking,real wood handles,massive blued steel blade. Appears to actually be made in Colombia,at least the blade anyway. Could'nt find a MADE IN CHINA stamp or sticker anywhere on it. The 1/8th steel blade is a little thin for heavy chopping duty,but its width,(4 1/4in.)at its widest part makes it a very useful tool for a variety of chopping chores.The machete does NOT come sharp out of the box,will need to be sharpened(2 mins. on belt sander)to be effective.Other than a lanyard hole,which I drilled myself in the end of the handle,this whopper -chopper is hard to beat for the price!

I use this machete on a regular basis now, It's a very good design as far as handling goes,,,But I had to weld a piece of rebar along the top and grind it square to weight the blade as it's way too light to be effective as a brush cutter. I have lots of land that has loads of brush and saw grass growing on it, so a short-heavy, broad machete is very useful,,, if Condor would make this machete in a much heavier , thicker blade to give it some force in swinging it at small trees perhaps it would sell better, but the current version is like a wimpy grass and sapling cutter, that is,if you sharpened it as it's pretty dull out of the package.

This would be an excellent little machete if it were not thin as a sheet of construction paper. It's a short version of a blade you would find in the garden dept at a lumber store. If it had more ax like qualities like a thicker, heavier back spine it would be an awesome all around chopping tool, but it's not even sharp and looks like Chinese junk one would find at a flea market. Might be good for soft cane or saplings, but not a real camp sight tool....don't waste $$ here.
